Why willstanding up fast or bending over cause a sudden COPD panic attack in which i can't catch my breath?

Two Answers: Standing up too fast causes the blood to stay in the lower parts of the body, dropping blood pressure to the brain. Dehydration makes it worse as do certain drugs. This is called orthostatic hypotension. Bending over with COPD changes the way blood and oxygen are exchanged in the lungs, like lying flat on one's back. That is called orthopnea. In addition COPD is a disease mostly of older people who have been smokers, asthma can affect anyone including young people and is often associated with a hx of allergies. In some patients the tow disease coexist. Stress/anxiety make both worse but do not "cause" copd. ...Read more

Panic attacks and anxiety causes hard to breath not lots of fast breathes, just short of breathe how do I calm down when this happens?

Hold for a count of five then slowly begin to exhale through an open mouth. Repeat at least 12 times, longer if you need to. If you haven't been assessed for your panic/ anxiety - that would be prudent. Take care. ...Read more

See a doctor: There are lots of potential causes: 1. Thyroid hormone excess (thyrotoxocosis) is certainly possible and easy to check. 2. Anxiety or panic (but does not usually cause weight loss). 3. Stimulant medications like Phentermine or adderal. 4. Rare heart or hormonal diseases. I'd recommend seeing a md soon for a thorough check up including TSH and free thyroxine. ...Read more
