When I was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer the oncocoligist said they should just call it stage iv. Is this true?

When I was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer the oncocoligist said they should just call it stage iv. Is this true?

Different reason: Your oncologist must have a reason to call it stage IV fromstage iii c. In stage IV the tumor cells are found out side peritoneal (abdominal) caviety, may be fluid from chest have cancer cells. Ask your oncologist, why it upgraded to IV, you will get the explanation, good luck.

I have stage 4 ovarian cancer. I"ve gone off treatment. How long will I live?

I have stage 4 ovarian cancer. I"ve gone off treatment. How long will I live?

Not long: There is no specific amount of days or weeks for survival, however Stage 4 indicates that the Ovarian Cancer has metastasized (spread) to distant parts of your body. I wish you Godspeed as going off treatment is a very difficult decision to make for anyone in this condition.

In stage 4 ovarian cancer, what does it usually mean if your ca-125 goes from 600 to 222 then back up to 350?

In stage 4 ovarian cancer, what does it usually mean if your ca-125 goes from 600 to 222 then back up to 350?

Some response: If therapies are changed we look at the ca125 levels to guide the choice of chemotherapy. This would be compatible with a temporary response to type of therapy.

In stage 4 ovarian cancer, what does it mean if after several chemo treatments, if your ca-125 stays same?

Hard to say: If your ca-125 was very elevated to start with, and it's staying the same, that means the ovarian cancer cells aren't growing, which is good! Of course you'd feel better if your ca-125 was going down, but that can take some time. If your ca-125 was in the normal range to start with, or only mildly elevated, it might not be an accurate marker for your cancer. How you feel is very important!

Stage 4 ovarian cancer now has a fluid mass between stomach and liver does this mean it has spread to liver?

Stage 4 ovarian cancer now has a fluid mass between stomach and liver does this mean it has spread to liver?

Stage 4 Cancer: Not necessarily, but it does suggest at least inter abdominal spread, if not metastatic disease to the liver. An imaging study of the liver and abdomen can tell where it has spread.

My mom has stage 4 ovarian cancer and I have moderate cancer cells on my cervix. Should I opt for hystorectomy? My tubes have been clamped 4 3.5 yrs

My mom has stage 4 ovarian cancer and I have moderate cancer cells on my cervix. Should I opt for hystorectomy? My tubes have been clamped 4 3.5 yrs

Not necessarily: I'm so sorry about your mom. Ovarian cancer is different from cervical cancer. You probably don't need a hysterectomy for your cervix, but please let your doctor know about your mom. Your doctor can explain your abnormal cells and your risk for ovarian cancer. Ask him or her about genetic testing for ovarian cancer. You might choose a hysterectomy for peace of mind in the end--your choice!

Ovarian cancer, omental caking, spread though peritoneum --what is prognosis?

Probably not great.: This seems like advanced disease that is relatively widespread. This would likely be treated with chemotherapy, like Paclitaxel and cisplatin. In cycles. This has been shown to have a 5 year survival of up to 20%.

What to do about ovarian cancer, omental caking, spread though peritoneum --prognosis?

What to do about ovarian cancer, omental caking, spread though peritoneum --prognosis?

Can be helped: A radical resection of the omentum essentially removing the entire cake of tumor is performed eliminating vasucular permeability factor that leads to ascites. All peritoneal nodules are resected to smaller than 1 cm. And patient then placed on chemotherapy. Occassionally hyperthermic peritoneal chemotherapy lavage employed. Often patients may be cured if not helped in terms of survival.

If I have ovarian cancer, omental caking, spread though peritoneum, what is my prognosis?

If I have ovarian cancer, omental caking, spread though peritoneum, what is my prognosis?

Depends on surgery: Ovarian cancer has a high incidence of metastasis. When it occurs surgical debuling is the procedure of choice. The omentum becomes involved due to presence of TGF-B producing caking and leading to ascites followed by diaphragm and small bowel seeding. Best results with total omentectomy and debulking to no lesion left that is larger than 1 cm or smaller. Chemo then can be effective.

Wife complete debulking for stge 4 ovarian cancer. No l-nodes involved. All cancer removed. Ca125 44 at diagnosis. Ca125 is 3 after 6 rds of chemo. What questions should I ask onc re: prognosis?

High Risk: It sounds like she has had a good respons but she is high risk. You need to continue to have her monitored no matter what the numbers show. Her risk of recurrence is high just based on the staging. Her oncologist is the expert in this field. Support gourps may help as well. Good luck.
