Stage Iv Lung Cancer With Mets To Adrenal Gland
How dangerous can stage 4 breast cancer that has mets to lungs and adrenal gland be if it goes untreated without chemo?
Hard to Predict: Among all patients with breast cancer who present with distant disease, one fourth will survive beyond 5 years. It would be good to know the patient's age and receptor status (er, pr, her2) to answer this question, because we are finding much better results now with certain treatments (like Herceptin (trastuzumab) for her2+ pts) than in the past. Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
Stage 4 cancer that has mets to brain, lungs, adrenal gland and now liver, cause bowels to shut down? If so what are the signs that it is happening?
It depends on so man: Bowel obstruction can occur in any advanced abdominal cancer. If the bowels are compromised by tumor they can close/obstruct. It is not difficult to tell when that happens because no food will pass through them. As a result patients become constipated/obstipated and have increasing pain in the abdomen and are unable to eat and drink due to persistent nausea and vomiting. The belly swells up also. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My grandfather was diagnosed stage 4 lung cancer, spread to stomach and adrenal glands. I'd like to know a bit more about what we will be dealing with?
Slow decline: Given your grandfather is in his 80's and given his stage 4 lung cancer, i would strongly recommend that you consider hospice; use of chemotherapy in this situation to extend life by approximately 6 months v the side-effects is not in his best interest. Hospice will give you support as he develops symptoms and slowly declines. Spend quality time with him- it is what you will remember. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My friend diagnosed stage 4 inoperablel lung cancer.6 rounds of chemo shrunk tumor but tumors in adrenals grew. She was diagnosed in march.Prognosis?
Cosider localtherapy: I think the lung cancer can metastasize to the adrenal gland either by the lymphatic or the hematogenous route. In case of metastasis by the lymphatic route, it can be a solitary metastasis, and the prognosis can be relatively better. If the patient is young and in good performance status, aggressive treatment(stereotactic radiotherapy or even removal) can be considered in very selected case. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My friend was diagnosed in march with stage 4 inoperable lung cancer.6 tounds of aggressive chemo shrunk lung tumor but now in both adrenals.Prognosis?
Hard to say: Lung cancer often spreads to the adrenal glands, but adrenal tumors are often benign. The best predictor of how well your friend will do is how quickly the tumor is growing. If he truly had nothing there in march and now, despite chemotherapy, has large adrenal tumors growing that is not a good sign. If, however, your frined has had adrenal tumors all along, then the prognosis is much better. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
A cancer begins in an organ (say the breast). If it gets into the blood stream or the lymphatic stream the cells can travel to other parts of the body where, in the right environment, they may settle and grow. This development of tumor growth far away from the original site ...Read more
