Dad,Oscar, was told stage 4 lung cancer 2.5 wks ago. 1/3 sz brain tumor removed. 3 brain lesions. In bones&pos liver. Would u cyperknife brain tomorrow?

It depends: If you are 76, your Dad must be late 80s or early 90s. At such an advanced age it may not be worth being so aggressive with terminal cancer that at such advanced stage means he has only few weeks to few months left. However, if his desire is to be aggressive, Cyberknife is an effective an low risk procedure and I would recommend it highly. Otherwise, hospice care is very appropriate. ...Read more

Less than 1 year: There are a number of variables here, including what kind of lung cancer, gender, whether there is a single or small number of metastasis in the brain that can be treated by surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery, general health status and age. Patient with stage 4 lung cancer with brain metastasis is having very bloody urine. What does this mean?

Patient with stage 4 lung cancer with brain metastasis is having very bloody urine. What does this mean?

Many things: Stage IV lung cancer with bloody urine can mean many things. It could be due to the presence of a metastatic tumor in the bladder or the kidney. Please also note whether or not you are on a blood thinner. In uncommon case, it could also indicate the presence of a primary bladder tumor (though i doubt in this case). Bladder inflammation or infection could also be the cause. Check with your doctor. ...Read more

Stage 4 cancer that has mets to brain, lungs, adrenal gland and now liver, cause bowels to shut down? If so what are the signs that it is happening?

Stage 4 cancer that has mets to brain, lungs, adrenal gland and now liver, cause bowels to shut down? If so what are the signs that it is happening?

It depends on so man: Bowel obstruction can occur in any advanced abdominal cancer. If the bowels are compromised by tumor they can close/obstruct. It is not difficult to tell when that happens because no food will pass through them. As a result patients become constipated/obstipated and have increasing pain in the abdomen and are unable to eat and drink due to persistent nausea and vomiting. The belly swells up also. ...Read more

My husband is terminally ill from stage IV lung cancer that has mestastised to his liver. taking navelbine (vinorelbine). Will that cure him?

No, but...: It has a fair chance of slowing the tumor. Some folks live for months or perhaps even longer comfortably even with liver metastases from lung cancer, especially if the response to chemotherapy has been good. I hope the two of you will have more quality time together. It will be his and your decision, with advice from the oncologist, when to stop treatment and choose comfort measures only. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my husband is terminally ill from stage IV lung cancer that has mestastised to his liver. taking navelbine (vinorelbine)?

What do you suggest if my husband is terminally ill from stage IV lung cancer that has mestastised to his liver. taking navelbine (vinorelbine)?

Quality of life: If his cancer is controlled with chemotherapy, and he is pleased with his quality of life, I would continue the treatment. The medical oncologist will know if other agents can be used if navelbine (vinorelbine) stops being effective. If quality of life is low with the chemotherapy, it is reasonable to stop treatment and pursue hospice. It is a very personal decision. ...Read more

Stage 4 lung cancer, in liver, on spine ate hole in hip bone. No treatment still smoke. How long do I have left. What to tell my kids. What's next. ?

Liver cancer stage 4 , lung cancer and spleen cancer with cirrhosis and hep c can I take chemotherapy treatment to reduce tumor maker?

Have lung cancer but was in remission with lobectomy 4 yrs. ago. now new lesion on liver is this mets.?

Work up required: There is a list of possible diagnoses for a new liver lesion, which includes recurrence and spread of your lung cancer, but also includes many other possibilities that are non-cancerous. A full-work up (a doctor's visit with interview, examination, and testing), possibly requiring biopsy, would be needed. ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
