Probably OK: You have done the right thing by having a dermatologist check out your mole. Fortunately he/she thinks it is normal. Melanoma is uncommon at any age but especially so at your age. If you cannot shake this feeling, then a second opinion with another dermatologist would be in order. ...Read more

Not all that signifi: It does not increase the risk. So i would ask you not to worry any more than you already are if you have stage 4 melanoma. I hope you are not confusing it with level-4 melanoma which means non- metastatic melanoma(curable) as opposed to metastatic melanoma(stage-4) which is less commonly curable. ...Read more

Several weeks: At times melanoma has been known to go into spontaneous remission. However the chemotherapeutic agents attempted to be used for control have not been too effective. Recently drugs like the antiCTLA's ( anti cytotoxic lymphocyte antigen) and the PD-1's have produced a rapid regression in metastasis that have lasted long periods of time. Unrelated: ESR and C-reactive protein are laboratory values that are usually not very helpful in following patients with metastatic melanoma. Generally, scans such as CT or MRI are more helpful. Radiation +/- surg: If there is only one or two brain metastasis it may be treated with surgery + radiation therapy. More than that number of brain mets usually treated with radiation alone. Disease in body may respond to targeted therapy (e.g. Zelboraf + Mekinist). Yervoy has also helped many. Prognosis depends on a large number of factors which I cannot assess. ...Read more
