New mole show up one year ago, doesn't fit ABCDE and derm said it is fine. Cant shake the thought that it may not be. Scared stage 4 melanoma, crazy?
Probably OK: You have done the right thing by having a dermatologist check out your mole. Fortunately he/she thinks it is normal. Melanoma is uncommon at any age but especially so at your age. Several weeks: At times melanoma has been known to go into spontaneous remission. However the chemotherapeutic agents attempted to be used for control have not been too effective. Recently drugs like the antiCTLA's ( anti cytotoxic lymphocyte antigen) and the PD-1's have produced a rapid regression in metastasis that have lasted long periods of time. Unrelated: ESR and C-reactive protein are laboratory values that are usually not very helpful in following patients with metastatic melanoma. Generally, scans such as CT or MRI are more helpful. How long can you live with stage 4 metastatic melanoma with mets spread into the brain. What kind of treatment is best?
Radiation +/- surg: If there is only one or two brain metastasis it may be treated with surgery + radiation therapy. More than that number of brain mets usually treated with radiation alone.
