Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer Life Expectancy
My mom has stage 4 small cell lung cancer in both lungs, in severe pain no biopsy no trtreatment what happens now? Life expectancy?
One question: Small cell lung cancer is almost always high-stage when it's discovered and the only question is whether she is a candidate for chemotherapy, which can be expected to make the disease vanish for at least several good months. If this is not possible, it should at least be possible to manage her discomfort; ask a hospice physician.See 1 more doctor answer
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
What is the average life expectancy for patients diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer stage 4?
Not great: Less than 10% of patients survive past 5 years. Average life expectancy is about a year on average.See 1 more doctor answer
Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 6/12. They are unsure if it is small cell /non small cell. 1st chemo drug did nothing. Life expectancy?
Greatly depends: That depends on many factors: the type of cancer, how much it has spread, whether it is responsive to treatment, whether you have received treatment, etc. Etc. It is very difficult to make a prognostication about "life expectancy." stage 4 cancer, of whatever type, can be very difficult. It is important you get all the information you need that is accurate and helpful.See 2 more doctor answers
Weeks to months: Extensively metastatic lung cancer is a very serious condition with a very grave prognosis. The life expectancy would be weeks to months, not likely years.
My mom is 50 years a old and has been recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. What is life expectancy?
Can't be certain: There are many variables that affect survival. The lung cancer type and location. Younger people tend to live longer than older people with lung cancer. Women with lung cancer have a greater life expectancy than men with with lung cancer. Every case is different. That being said, the median stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer life expectancy is about 8 months. Five year survival is only 1%.
My mom has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in both her lungs, lymph nodes & around the lining of the heart what is life expectancy? She's 50
Unfortunate: Stage 4 lung cancer survival steadily improving with new therapies but not quick enough. It also depends type of cell age, sex females do better and general health. Non small cell 50% survive 8 months, over all less than 18% 5 yr survival. Give all the support and help you can along with family, make her comfortable try traditional and new regimes.See 1 more doctor answer
Stage 4 lung cancer no chemo tumor grew & cancer spread, clinical trial only now, on oxygen for sob, blood clots in legs, what is life expectancy?
Hard to say/depends.: At this stage of lung cancer, the options are limited as is survival. If treatment is done, it's usually chemotherapy and radiation and/or surgery after adjuvant chemotherapy. There are certainly trials out there and I would recommend talking to your doctor before starting any, but the chance for success is likely limited, as the 5 year survival of stage IV is <5%, but it doesn't hurt to try.See 1 more doctor answer
Poor: While there are treatments available, the reality is that stage IV small cell lung cancer is rarely curable and only marginally treated. Life expectancy is measured in weeks to months.
Not great,: ....I'm afraid. Without treatment it can be weeks to a few months at best. Treatment can extend it to 6+ months but seldom more than a year. There are exceptions, of course, depends on the age and health of the patient and how much disease there is. If this is about you or a loved one, I wish you the best. Remember none of us can tell for sure how long we have, so live each day fully.

Rtx/Cis: Sorry about your dad. It's a terrible disease. Currently cis platinum based chemotherapy protocols and radiotherapy protocols are used. Rare cures reported. Mostly palliative. Remission is not cure, its like a truce between the tumor and the patient. Usually fast growing. Not a surgically treated disease in that stage. Surgery only for small nodulesdx. As small cell in bx. During surgery.
76 year old female with stage 4 small cell Lung cancer, also in the liver. Presenting with hand shakes & skin peeling off her hands- what's happening?
This sounds like: A response to chemotherapy. Since we do not know her medical history or treatment history it would be best to contact her treating health care provider for more information regarding this current condition.
Can anyone tell me the life expectancy for someone with small cell lung cancer at the limited stage 3 level?
Months to years: There are essentially two stages of small cell lung cancer, limited or extensive. However, you are describing mediastinal disease. So if this person gets a good response with chemo and rt, then prophylactic cranial irradiation should be given. The survival if a complete or near complete response is measured in months to years. Rare to survive past 5 years but there have been cases.See 2 more doctor answers
Short: With limited stage disease the median survival is less than 2 years and with extensive disease less than a year. Having said that there are 5 year survivors.See 1 more doctor answer
Stage III B: It's unpredictable and depends on your response to treatment. You may have a few good years ahead of you. Cherish whatever you get.
Bad actor: Small cell at any stage beyond stage 1 = small, peripheral, has a bad prognosis. Get the devils and discuss. Less than 2 years is common.
Zero: Deadly without therapy.Get a more detailed answer ›
Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
