What is the average life expectancy for patients diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer stage 4?
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. If nsclungcancer is a slow growing cancer. What is the time frame inbetween stage3 non small cell lung cancer and stage 4 non small cell lung cancer?
In general, not good: Non small cell is usually not as aggressive as small cell, but chemotherapy is not as effective. A lot depends on the functional status of your dad, and where the cancer has spread. Stage 4 implies it has spread somewhere. 5 year survival rates are usually less than 5%. Sorry. ...Read more

My mom has stage 4 small cell lung cancer in both lungs, in severe pain no biopsy no trtreatment what happens now ? Life expectancy?
One question: Small cell lung cancer is almost always high-stage when it's discovered and the only question is whether she is a candidate for chemotherapy, which can be expected to make the disease vanish for at least several good months. If this is not possible, it should at least be possible to manage her discomfort; ask a hospice physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Mom diagnosed wi/stage IV non small cell lung cancer its mets to bones, a lymph node, pancreas. What is her chances of survival?
Greatly depends: That depends on many factors: the type of cancer, how much it has spread, whether it is responsive to treatment, whether you have received treatment, etc. Etc. It is very difficult to make a prognostication about "life expectancy." stage 4 cancer, of whatever type, can be very difficult. It is important you get all the information you need that is accurate and helpful. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Stage 4 lung cancer no chemo tumor grew & cancer spread, clinical trial only now, on oxygen for sob, blood clots in legs, what is life expectancy?
Hard to say/depends.: At this stage of lung cancer, the options are limited as is survival. If treatment is done , it's usually chemotherapy and radiation and/or surgery after adjuvant chemotherapy. There are certainly trials out there and i would recommend talking to your doctor before starting any, but the chance for success is likely limited, as the 5 year survival of stage IV is <5%, but it doesn't hurt to try. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not great, : ....I'm afraid. Without treatment it can be weeks to a few months at best. Treatment can extend it to 6+ months but seldom more than a year. There are exceptions, of course, depends on the age and health of the patient and how much disease there is. If this is about you or a loved one, i wish you the best. Remember none of us can tell for sure how long we have, so live each day fully. ...Read more
Should i be concerned if my husband has stage four non-small cell lung cancer do you know any alternative treatments?
Be concerned: Stage 4 lung cancer has an overall poor prognosis. The therapy associated with any positive effects would be chemotherapy and/or radiation. While a cure can occur, it is a rare event with stage 4. Alternative therapies can be explored, but realize that most don't claim to cure. If you look at the advertizements closely, they will treat but never claim to cure. Standard therapy- 15% overall cure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
