Stage 4 Liver Cirrhosis Life Expectancy
Stage 4=cirrhosis: The prognosis of cirrhosis is highly variable since it is influenced by a number of factors, including etiology, severity, presence of complications, and comorbid diseases. Scoring systems are available to give you an idea of life expectancy but are far from exact. You should discuss this with your doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more
Short and variable: It is not feasible to predict with any degree of accuracy as to how long will a given individual with a given illness will live. See this site for more info. Http://www. Webmd. Com/digestive-disorders/cirrhosis-liver.See 1 more doctor answer
Variable: The life expectancy is very variable and depends on the cause and stage of cirrhosis, state of compensation, development of malignancy etc. It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion about life expectancy for a given patient. See this site for more info. Http://www. Webmd. Com/digestive-disorders/cirrhosis-liver.
Depends: People with cirrhosis can live many years, but once they start developing complication of ascites (fluid build up in belly), confusion (hepatic encephalopathy), varices (vomiting blood) or liver cancer, the life expectancy is much less. The way to increase your life expectancy is to have a liver doctor help manage the above, and to stop drinking alcohol as you can possibly heal your liver.
Age 58, non-alcoholic. Have liver cirrhosis due to Portal Hypertensive. Still have 40% liver working. It can be stable always or what is life expectancy?
Take care ofyourself: If you already have portal hypertension as a complication of your liver disease, you probably have had cirrhosis for awhile. There is no "40% working" - best markers are those of synthetic function. Get the underlying cause treated if possible (? HCV), stay as healthy as you can. But no, unlikely to remain 'stable always'.See 1 more doctor answer
I need life expectancy for liver cirrhosis. He has hep c with an enlarged liver and fluid around it.
What is average life-expectancy for a patient who has liver cirrhosis and has developed ascites for 2 weeks and seems to respond to Lasix and aldactone (spironolactone)? Thanks.
What Stage?: Life expectancy depends on what stage is the disease, is it irreversible, what is meld score need inr, creatinine & bilurubin levels to access (model for end stage liver disease) presence of active hep b or c eso. Varices etc. Based on info appear to be stage iii or IV if untreated not much time left, need liver transplantation. Meld score to put on waiting list.
4: There are four stages of fibrosis (scarring) and stage 4 is cirrhosis. When you say stage 4 cirrhosis--it is a confusing term since the europeans use a different classification where stage 4 of cirrhosis means cirrhosis with signs of liver failure that is much worse than stage 4 of fibrosis. Please discuss more with your liver doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
What is the prognosis of liver cirrhosis with stage 4 liver cancer? Why people with liver cirrhosis/liver cancer have low hemoglobin, red blood cells?
Need to ask your ono: Your oncologist can help. Anemia can be caused by blood loss (which is common in patients with cirrhosis (GI blood loss due to varices). Poor blood formation is also common (Anemia of chronic disease). Blood transfusion can help the pateint. Keep Hemoglobin near 10 Grams. There is some treatment for Liver cancer that could be tried (the medicine is called Nexavar (Sorafenib)
Cirrhosis: Good question. Need a little more info> what is the etiology of the cirrhosis?See 2 more doctor answers
I have cirrhosis of the liver. The Doc. Says stage 4 level 4. I also am waiting for new meds to come out in fall for hep c.Life expectancy is....?
Depends: How is your liver function? If your docs are suggesting waiting and not going for SIM/SOF now, then things can't be too dire. Make sure you get regular screening for liver cancer and esophageal varices. if the HCV gets taken care of, may or may not need a transplant down the line.See 1 more doctor answer
My husband is in very early stages of stage 4 non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. His doctor told him to lose weight. What is his life expectancy?
Depends: Regarding his diagnosis, stage 1 is early and likely reversible with weight loss, excercise, and a good diet. Avoiding alcohol abuse and getting vaccinated against hepatitis b is also as good idea. It is not end-stage liver disease. Life expectancy could be totally normal.See 1 more doctor answer
Was is the life expectancy of a Woman with NASH cirrhosis recently diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer exhibiting grade 3 hepatic encephalopathy.
Poor prognosis: Regretfully, Stage 4 disease is associated with spread of the liver cancer to minimally nearby lymph nodes, and probably through into blood vessels. The treatment is typically chemotherapy, with/without embolization. The presence of an encephalopathic clinical picture also portends to a guarded at best prognosis. Please consult with a specialist care team to determine therapeutic options.
Complicated: Patients with liver cirrhosis develop many complications since the presence of ascites means that there is portal hyperteinsion in the venous system draining the bowel with nutrients heading to the liver. Such patients can go into liver failure and coma or develop complications from portal hypertension such as esophageal varices. A shunt has to be performed to lessen or eliminate the problem.
58years, had liver cirrhosis in2006, I was put under steroids, have to continue steroids as per doctor for life, but I keep gaining weight due to the same?
See liver specialist: Agree with dr. Abe; sounds like autoimmune hepatitis. Meds may be able to be adjusted. On 6mp (steroid sparing), Budesonide (steroid with fewer systemic effects)? Watching diet, weight as best you can> avoiding alcohol? Liver specialist (hepatologist) may be able to help.See 2 more doctor answers
What's healthy diet & life style other than drink and meat consider.& routine exercise, enough sleep, lack of worry for potential liver cirrhosis?
How is your weight: If you are doing all the good things you listed, make sure your BP and cholesterol are normal and your weight is in the healthy range. Are you drinking alcohol excessively?
Depends on the cause: There have been deaths of heavy-drinking celebrities during their 20's. Mr. Mckernan died at age 26 of cirrhosis, probably from his alcohol use. If you believe you have something in your life that may be damaging your liver, please get with your physician -- we know many tricks that may help. Best wishes.
See below: It depends on the severity of the cirrhosis and the underlying cause two major causes of death are massive bleeding from esophageal varicose and ascites. If both these are prevented he can live longer.
See below: Cirrhosis is a disease caused by many different entities and the treatment depends on the reason for the cirrhosis to begin with. If the cirrhosis is well formed and advanced the only realistic treatment regardless of cause is a liver transplant.
