Patients with stage 4kidney disease are at a 6-8 fold increased risk of cardiovascular events compared to age matched controls. Cardiovascular risk reduction is key to prolonging. Depends on heart: It depend on general health and associated health conditions especially heart disease. Heart failure by itself doesn't prevent someone from getting kidney transplant. I guess she was evaluated in a transplant center and being followed by a cardiologist. ...Read more

Getting close: Stage 4 CKD is considered severe kidney disease with stage 5 considered end stage and requiring dialysis. The best thing to do is to see a nephrologist regularly and take medications they prescribe regularly. You should also avoid NSAIDs like motrin and aleve (naproxen). Annual blood tests: Unfortunately chronic kidney diseases do not generally cause symptoms unless they are pretty advanced. Assessment of kidney function is achieved by routine blood and urine test (that's how they are generally and accidentally found).
