You have probably tried advil and tylenol for your pain. You could try a topical pain patch such as lidoderm, which is by prescription. Muscle spasm: Upscale spasm of the abdominal wall (or muscle strain, tear, etc.) can ALS be a cause. Sometimes people will even feel a bulge which sounds like a hernia, but may in fact be the contracting muscle. Usually the area is manually massaged, and there is pain relief after a few minutes.
