Muscle spasm: Upscale spasm of the abdominal wall (or muscle strain, tear, etc.) can ALS be a cause. Sometimes people will even feel a bulge which sounds like a hernia, but may in fact be the contracting muscle. Usually the area is manually massaged, and there is pain relief after a few minutes. Consider hernia: Can't diagnose simply from description, but often times hernias (where the bowel pokes through the normal muscle) can occur in the area you described, and can cause the same symptoms. Usually symptoms worsen during physical activity, like straining. Hernias aren't always dangerous, but if it is bothersome, worth getting checked out. ...Read more
