Do any of these ease ADHD? I currently take adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) -
St John's Wort
Sounds like your: mind is racing like a machine gun through all these stimulating supplements that will not relax you, until you understand what is important with ADHD. What activity eases your mind? Meditation? Walking? Contemplation? Do more of these things, rather than ingest more supplements initially. See if these alone can help your mind from racing through thoughts. Then, when you add one thing at a time. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

St. John's Wort may: decrease effects of Alprazolam; may interact with 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) to increase risk of a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome; and may interact with some foods. These interactions may mimic anxiety/panic attacks. Consult prescriber regarding all medications and supplements to determine what is best for your situation. If I took 3 St. John Warts the day before yesterday, and had unprotected sex this morning and got came inside, should I be worried?
Possible issue: Its my understanding that St. John wort may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pill. You may want to consider taking plan B today or if you are in the middle of your birth control packet at least consider taking 2 pills today. If you are on one of the blanks (pill days 22-28) you are more likely in the clear. ...Read more

Well...: since it is normally present, it won't get out of the body. The body would make more. Assuming you've actually found some and the label is correct and taken it and it has gotten in in amounts that are noticeably higher than normally present.... it is cleared fairly rapidly like an amino acid and likely not even one day. ...Read more
Like all therapeutic agents 5-HTP can have a variety of side effects including nausea, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, low blood pressure etc. Such side effects are more likely to occur if you don't need it.
It can help anxiety and may boost effectiveness of Prozac but should be used with caution in those on anti-depressants as it could raise serotonin too much. See

I have been taking Effexore XR 75 for about ten years now and I am going through a difficult time in my life now; have no drive. Can I take 5 HTP too?
Need professional Rx: 5HTP has side effects, some of which are serious. If you are not scurrectly seeing a mental health professional, you need a referral to see one. Whether cognitive therapy or new medicines or a combination is needed, management needs to be directed by a physician experienced in the area ...Read more
Probably safe but...: There's no research on this but it's probably safe to take these together, in fact I'd expect a synergistic benefit. SAMe appears to increase serotonin levels; 5-HTP does that too so theoretically one might raise serotonin too much, but this is unlikely unless very high doses are taken. I would not start both together but take one for at least 3 weeks, then add the other, starting with low doses. ...Read more
