400# squats: Yes! That is a lot of strain on your knees and low back. If you are using improper form, you will hurt yourself. Please use spotters and be careful. I would recommend a coach.

Kids will grow to the pre-destined height in america as long as they eat healthily, exercise moderately, grab some sunshine, and get plenty of sleep. Exercise: No. But, it is not the perfect exercise. If you want core strength and or weight loss this is just the beginning.

What is a good alternative to squats and lunges?

Have not: Stated your objective. If you want to lose weight need to decrease intake and make sure you keep up exercise such as swimming or walking, bike riding. The amount of exercise needed at your age needs to be discussed with your doc and may need to have an exercise rx. Be careful but the best may just be simple as walking or bike riding.

Depends on meaning: I encourage my patients to find physical activities that they can be engaged in for a lifetime. The idea of a workout implies something different. The aap ; certified trainer groups recommend no power lifting until the final stage of physical maturity. Cardio workouts (like soccer, jogging) are proper anytime as is instruction in proper weight training by a knowledgable trainer.

Yes: The mcl is the most commonly injured knee ligament. Any load applied to the outside of the knee can injure the mcl. The severity if the sprain determines the treatment.

What's your goal?: Smaller butt? Larger one? Rather than focus on that one body part, and rather than try to live up to societal standards of beauty, exercise regularly to achieve & maintain your own health. Be happy & satisfied with your achievements & individuality. Don't feel that you have to conform to others or succumb to peer pressure. You're better than that! Exercise all body parts b/c it's good for you.

Can your butt get bigger with exercises like squats?

To a certain extent: If you work out quite strenuously and you have the right genetics, you may undergo a degree of hypertrophy (enlargement) of the buttock muscles like the gluteus muscle which can enlarge the size of your buttocks. But it would be uncommon that you would gain so much muscle that it would significantly enlarge the size of your buttocks. Most increased size comes from increased superficial fat.

Muscle stimulation: These are compound movements that use several different muscle groups to complete the exercise. You may be stimulating muscles that haven't been used in a while. Also, your success with these exercises may be motivating you to increase your overall exercise routine with similar benefits.

Work on....: Really stretching out your achilles tendons! If you don't know how to do this already, visit youtube and do a search for these types of exercises. Type in "achilles tendon stretches" and a bunch of videos will turn up to help you.

Better Looking Butt: Squats are a good start. Exercises that will work your buttocks include: lunges, squats, dumbbell squats, stepups, toe taps, plie, squats with kickbacks, hip extensions, one legged dead-lifts and the gamut of aerobic exercises (running, swimming, bicycling, kickboxing, walking).

It depends: In the old days squatting was the method, I think that help to empty your bowels better and faster. These days sitting is the method, this more comfortable and you can spend more time in the bath. I like the squatting method more.

Hard to say: Proper squat form is so important to keep your knees healthy. There are a myriad of ways you can damage your knees with improper squat form. But, knee pain could be from many things. Old injuries that never healed, improper running form, etc. Best to have a good knee exam to be sure and then follow up with someone who can critique your squat form.

Do I have to worry if I feel giddy when I stand up after squatting down for 30 secs?

Giddy: Squatting for 30 seconds is clearly too much for you for now. Spend a few days at 10 seconds and if that is OK go to 20 for the next few days, etc. You should get where you want to be.
