Spread Lymph Node
Is it common for cancer to start or spread to lymph node behind ear? Male 19 no other problems except irritated outer ear skin.
Tough to say...: An enlarged lymph node behind the ear can be as simple as a skin and/or hair infection on the scalp (e.g. tinea capitis-- fungal infection on scalp and hair). However, without seeing what your describing on your ear and knowing other symptoms, it's impossible to exclude a potentially more concerning diagnosis. ...Read more

I had a 4.42mill melanoma removed from my shoulder there was no spread to lymph nodes but I'm not sure if it can spread later?
Yes: I'm glad it's off. I hope it was low-stage as well. You do need to be aware that even an early melanoma with no metastases can recur as distant disease years, even decades later. Your physician can show you the probability curves. Chances are that you have a cure, but always mention this to your physicians for the rest of your life. Best wishes. ...Read more

My grandmother is 64 has endometrial cancer that has now spread to lymph nodes what is her life expectancy?
Depends on Rx: It depends on the treatment program that she is given. Endometrial cancer is easily survivable if caught before it leaves the uterus as progesterone or surgery can reverse early Stage I. Your grandmother is beyond that point and her Oncologists will be offering her various treatment options which of course affect survival rates. ...Read more
I have been dx'd with scc of the skin. I know it has the potential to spread to lymph nodes. I have a pea size bump in armpit. Should I be concerned?
Probably not: You gave no details about the scc or about yourself. Where is it? How old is it? How large? Ulcerated? Do you have an organ transplant? Hiv? Leukemia? Is the scc in an old burn scar? In a chronic ulcer? Most scc are easily cured and are not life-threatening. If they are on the lips, ears or genital areas they are more serious. If you have impaired immunity it is worse. ...Read more

Ov cancer spread to lymph nodes. Paclitaxel, avastin, (bevacizumab) doxil, gemzar, topotecan have failed. Is it all down hill from here? Is this the end?
Not yet: Ovarian cancer can best be managed by minimal tumor burden an then intraperitoneal chemotherapy. If there is a well defined chain of nodes such as the iliac nodes, I do a pelvic node dissection. L if the tumor burden represents additional multiple nodules along the surface of the bowel, they must be reduced to smaller than 1cm. In diameter. In addition it is essential that the omentum is out.Ea. ...Read more

It varies.: Unlike other cancers, hodgkin lymphoma does seem to begin in one lymph node area and then gradually spread in a predictable pattern to other lymph nodes and eventually to other sites like the spleen, liver and bone marrow. It is this behavior that made radiation therapy successful as a cure. However, the pace at which it spreads varies from patient to patient, but typically spreads over months. ...Read more
See specialist: This is an important question to discuss with your dermatologist. If the melanoma is 1-4mm thick, sln biopsy is often recommended. Between 0.7-1mm depends on other features of your melanoma. Since we have yet to demonstrate survival benefits, sln biopsy is still used primarily for staging. That said, discussion with your specialist is essential as each case is different. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Can BC with spread to one lymph node cause a finger long sized squishy bulge on the inner forearm? Is this likely to be something to worry about?
Exam advised: If you're referring to breast cancer with documented spread to a lymph node in that side, a physician or breast surgeon should examine that mass in your arm for peace of mind. Concern would be for a blood clot or other node involvement partially obstructing the lymph drainage in that arm, although I would expect more arm swelling in that case. ...Read more

I have invasive lobular carcinoma, stage 2b, grade 2, spread to 1 lymph-node. Estrogen + , her2 - should I consider genetic testing?
Yes, please: Breast cancer at age 33 meets criteria for brca testing. The results may significantly impact one's surgical treatment decision (best to do before radiation therapy, since this would be unnecessary if one opts for mastectomy). That said, without any other risk factors, the statistical probability of being brca (+) is not that high. Please see a genetic counselor. ...Read more
NOT REALLY...: Regional/local lymph nodes can be affected resulting in swelling, pain, hot and tender. These are, pre-auricular, post -auricular, sub-occipital, posterior cervical groups. Lymph nodes are the part of immune system, catch bacteria, kill them and after sometime come back to normal size. If bad infection, lymph nodes can become purulent. Armpit lymph nodes are far away to be involved. ...Read more
It is relative.: This depends upon the stage of cancer at diagnosis. Colon cancer is staged by the dukes' system. Stages a and b have no lymph mode involvement and so no spread is likely. Stage c patients do better if <5 nodes are involved so those are likely to be slower than those with >5 nodes. Stage d means distant metastasis (organs involved). It is hard to say since people come in at diferent stages. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
