It sucks when you get differing opinoins as your hoping to be given expert advice and you yourself are not expected to be able to read an xray or MRI.... So sorry about that. How different is the treatment plan between the two? Since your in pain, err on the side of caution.. ...Read more

Yez, ,as long as U--: -have had it evaluated by an ortho, & there's no structural damage, don't worry. As the blood is adsorbed, it's common 2 have it itch. Also don't B surprised if there is some dark staining in the area it is due 2 an iron tattoo from the breakdown of hemoglobin. ...Read more

Ice ice brace it: For first line treatment, ice, rest and brace it. Antiinflammatory meds can help decrease swelling and pain. It takes 3-4 weeks for ligaments to heal. If it continues to hurt after 1-2 weeks, seeing a physician for standing x-rays and exam in case you may have damaged your ankle more severely than first thought. Hope this helps! ...Read more

I sprained my ankle 12 days ago and still have bruising and swelling. I am walking on it but its' still stiff and painful. Is this normal?

Highly variable time: Foot and toe swelling after a significant ankle sprain lingers until the ankle swelling diminishes, since it is in part due simply to the limited outflow capabilities of normal capacity. This is from the "blockage" of outflow and compression of the exiting pathways by the swollen and pressurized tissues around the ankle. Early icing, elevation, and compression will help the ankle swelling. ...Read more

14 mos since a grade 3 sprain in right ankle and still have bruising and slight swelling around top of my ankle, is something still wrong?

THe good news is : You didn't say you had pain. I would advise you to wear some form of compressive anklet to minimize the swelling. Ice it when you can and elevate your feet when at rest. A grade 3 sprain is on the severe side and discoloration is not usual, nor is slight swelling. ...Read more
