4 month old has mild flat spot on back of head. How do I correct this? Will it even out when she sits up more?

Plagiocephaly: It is not uncommon for babies to develop flat spots on their heads early on. Make sure your baby gets "tummy time" every day. That takes the pressure of those areas and also encourages development of neck and torso strength - both of which are vital for being able to sit unsupported. Most times these flat spots go away once the baby spends less time flat on their back. ...Read more

My 6 year old has a tender spot in back of his head since 3 days ago, it hurts when he touch it, what it could be?

See his doctor: It sounds like it could be a skin infection, perhaps from a bug bite. Depending on how large it is, if it is getting worse day by day, and how tender it is, he may just need antibiotics to treat it. If your doctor thinks it is an abscess (a pocket of pus in the skin), they may want to drain out the fluid. That will make it easier to treat with less pain. Warm packs and pain relief can also help. ...Read more

Good day Dr. I have a 22days old baby boy with a pink spot at the back of his head neck, so I would like to know what must I do to remove it,?

Nothing: Without seeing the spot in person it's difficult to provide a certain diagnosis. Many babies are born with "stork bites" -red/salmon colored areas - on the back of their necks/heads. It is a birthmark and nothing to worry about and will fade over time on it's own. If you are still concerned please have a pediatrician evaluate it before subjecting your baby to unnecessary and potentially harmful tx ...Read more

I have a tender spot on the back of my head. What could be the cause?

Probably nothing: You have probably bumped or irritated the "spot" in some manner. Have someone look to see if there is anything visable. If not, give it a while. I have a flat tender spot on the back of my head like where the swirl is what can this be?

Swelling: If you didn't injure the spot where the head is tender (bumped your head) then it is most likely some skin irritation. You could have an allergic response to some shampoo or other hair treatment. As long as you are not an infant, the skull is closed and it is only the scalp you are feeling. There are rare situations when the skull is not closed from birth, but you would have known about that. ...Read more

I feel a sharp pain on the back mid section of my head when I touch the spot and I have not bumped my head anywhere. Why does it hurt?

May be a pimple.: There may be a skin lesion at that tender site, that you are not aware of. It could be a pimple, or you may have scratched yourself with a comb or brush, or something else. Ask a friend or relative to look at the area, and if the pain persists, you need to have a doctor, preferably a dermatologist, check the area. ...Read more

Baby has flat spot right back side and in front left side. Will her head shape be fine later or will it be same. Worried. Birth time she was fine.?

"back to sleep": When it was established that putting an infant tummy side down increased the risk of SIDS, parents were told to put infants on their backs to sleep. Since an infant's skull is very malleable, it can cause flattening of the back of the skull. Give your baby plenty of tummy time while awake. As her brain grows and her sleep position varies, this flattening may get less apparent with time. ...Read more

Depends: By the time baby is spending more of her time upright & not laying down, gravity is no longer aggravating the process as much & it has a chance to round out.
