Joknt: It does take some time to heal of course. However, an x-ray should demonstrate whether or not the fracture is healing, healed, or involves the joint. If its not healed or involves the joint it could still be painful. ...Read more

Joint laxity: Can show up in any ways in the hand. Hyper extension of the pip finger joints, looseness of the thumb, abity to place the thumb on the anterior forearm with flexed wrist, wrist ligament looseness. Many have knee or elbow or shoulder looseness too. If chronic laxity is a problem wearing a splint alone may not tighten the joint permanently just show iffunction changes when over extension is limited. ...Read more

Hand surgeon: If I were you I would see a hand specialist. That does not mean an operation will immediately be recommended.First, you need proper diagnosis,possibly nerve conduction study,possibly steroid injection in hand,physiotherapy,splint.... Finger cast: JenniferS~ 10 d immobilisation of fingers will make them stiff. 2 months will make them impossible to move. Please have your doc refer you to a PT who specialises in hand injury or an OT with same. You cannot do this alone thanks ...Read more

Not unusual : It would usually take about 8 weeks for such a fracture to heal and it would not be uncommon at all to not see much at 4 weeks. The main reason to check an X-ray at 4 weeks is not really to see if it is healed, but rather to make sure it has not displaced. ...Read more

Ortho: Sounds like a consultation with an orthopedist that specializes in hand surgery would be appropriate. Within the week would probably be best. I would go with a splint until then to be safe. Be sure to bring your X-rays. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Stop the vitamins: Vitamin overdoses can cause many symptoms including those you described. However you should see a doctor to determine if there is any other cause of your symptoms. Yes, not b/c splint: Swelling after an injury to the finger is common and is due mostly to the injury, not the immobilization. Ice, nsaid's and exersice will help decrease the swelling after being splinted. Don't be surprised if you have some residual swelling up to 6 months after injury. Sometimes swelling in the middle knuckle never goes away completely. ...Read more
