If spironolactone (for acne) is androgen blocker - how does this not have any interaction with androgenic progestin such as levonorgestrel/Mirena?

It could: The circulating levels of Progesterone secreted by Mirena (levonorgestrel) are very low making androgen side effects possible but uncommon. Spironolactone would decrease the androgenic effects if they were to be present although a doctor would not typically treat Mirena (levonorgestrel) side effects this way. If I were the physician treating someone with androgenic side effects of Mirena (levonorgestrel) I would just change birth control methods ...Read more

No: Like not getting Fluoride in the water, elevated BP is mostly problematic at that level only if left like that for prolonged periods of time, like weeks and months. You should be fine if you simply get back on the spironalactone. Good luck, and keep an eye on that bp! ...Read more

Need more info: Hi. We need more information. Why were you prescribed Spironolactone instead of some other BP medicine? Did you have low blood potassium and high blood pressure? If so, and it's due to the adrenal steroid, Aldosterone, if adrenal surgery is not an option, Spironolactone (or preferably Eplerenone) is the best drug. Spironolactone blocks testosterone (undesirable in guys) but Eplerinone does not. ...Read more
