It depend o the age: Children heal faster than adult. Children need about 6-8 weeks adult need about 8-12 weeks.
A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more
Heal the fracture: And do physcial therapy.Get a more detailed answer ›
1-4 months, varies: This depends widely depending on the exact location of the fracture, which bone or bones (tibia or fibula) are involved, the degree of displacement of the fracture, bone quality, alignment of the fracture, treatment choice, and what your definition of "normal" is. You should ask your orthopedic specialist what they predict for your recovery.
In '99, spiral fractured one lower leg bone and shattered the other. Dr says it's healing nicely still. Still, on occassion have extreme pain in leg. Have lots of pins and metal in leg. This why?
X-ray: This is really impossible to answer intelligently without looking at good quality ap and lateral x-rays of your tibia and/ or ankle. A second opinion is never a bad idea. Gl!See 1 more doctor answer
How do I go about taking care of a sprained ankle and spiral fracture lower? (Nothin the same leg)
Orthopedist: You will need to see an orthopedic surgeon.
Surgery on spiral fracture Aug. 25/14 steel and screws severely irritating still. Pain also up into upper leg. Could metal be removed early safely?
Keep in 9-12 months: Generally speaking hardware does not routinely need to be removed. BUT, when it remains significantly symptomatic and with proof of solid fracture healing, hardware can be safely removed about 9-12 months after your type of fracture
Re:fibula spiral fracture at ankle: additionally, I have had no pain since break, and walking lightly since cast was put on, question is about a boot?
Cast now boot later: Is this being treated without surgery (ie a nondisplaced break)? Anyhow, if so usually is 6 weeks immobilized and non weightbearing to allow for healing and minimize the risk of displacement. I tend to not use the boot until after this initial 6 week period. For a very hairline type break I might allow a boot as long as I can trust the patient to keep it on near full time.See 1 more doctor answer
Non displaced spiral fracture of fibula and dislocated ankle. 9 screws and a plate. Can walk on it relatively pain free 3 weeks post op. Bad idea??
Sounds like: A big operation for serious injury. Pain free ambulation at 3 weeks is pretty good progress. Because of extent of injury and surgical procedure, it is impossible to give advice here. Ask your ortho surgeon for specific advice.
Fibula spiral fracture at ankle: 6 weeks in cast, typically, what is follow up treatment after cast is removed? X rays look great.
Is it normal that three years after a spiral fracture and implant to my tibia that I have a visible lump on the break and constant shin pain?

I'm still experiencing pain, tingling, pins & needles & burning from a 5th metatarsal spiral fracture 4mths from injury date. Pain in ankle + fibula als?
Delayed healing.: All your symptoms are subjective in nature. I think knowing objective symptoms such as swelling, angular deformity or discoloring might contribute to understand just what the problem is. Fifth metatarsal fractures are not the easiest to heal even under perfect circumstances. Radio-graphic evaluation might be needed to see if there is a delayed healing of the bone or just a post fracture neuritis.See 1 more doctor answer
I broke my ankle playing soccer, eversion motion, x-ray shows mildly displaced spiral fracture at lateral malleolus. Had cast for 8 weeks. Dr said I can start walking even though x-ray still show the break, should I do? How long should take to heal?
When in doubt: Normally a "displaced" fracture of the distal fibula is surgically repaired. This is because the end of the fibula is needed for ankle joint stability. Your doctor may have felt the fracture did not require surgery, which is very possible. If there is some uncertainty on your part a second opinion is always available.
Physical abuse: A spiral fracture is a fracture wherein the bone is twisted apart like a cork screw. It is usually associated with physical or sexual abuse the femur is one of the strongest bones in the body. Considerable force needs to be taken to break your femur bone. The most common cause of femur fracture is car accidents or falls from heights.
Depends: Sometimes these are not clearly visible depending on the direction the x-rays travel. There are also curious lines that represent nutrient arteries that pass within and through the bone. The best films in smaller kids are taken from several directions and examined closely. A fracture that does not cause an angulation or separate some area of bone may be missed initially.See 1 more doctor answer

Is it broken or fractured is a question I am often asked. The answer is basically that a broken or fractured bone is the same thing. A fracture means a break in the cortex or the strong layer of outer bone cells. In an adult the average time for that to heal varies greatly but is often considered to ...Read more
