How long and what are the signs that a spider bite is properly healing? I am in antibiotic for it now. It's still purple and puss

Paaaaaaarrrrtyyyyy!!: Purple is not on the list of normal skin colors on this planet and pus is normal only if you are a bunch of bacteria having a party on flesh. That means either you're a party-goer from Pluto or you need to get that seen by a doc ASAP. Here on earth, that purple color may mean trouble, so head for a doctor on the double. Your antibiotic ain't workin'--so them bugs have a head start on the party. ...Read more

Where do you live?: Brown recluse spiders are found in central and southwest states. Their bites are quite rare, usually painful, forming ulcers. Unless you saw the spider, felt the bite, and took the spider to an expert, assume it is something else. Black widow bites are even more rare. How to heal spider bites?

How to heal spider bites?

Rapid Healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected. ...Read more
