Spider Bite Cellulitis Treatment
Just diagnosed w/cellulitis (spider bite) current hepc tx weakened my immunity. How serious is this?
Natural Healing: When our bodies sustain an injury, the immediate response is inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling). This is the body increasing the blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. The key is to do things that reduce the parts of inflammation such as ice, compression, elevation and antiinflammatory medications in the first 24hrs.
My wife was bitten by some sort of insect. It appears to be a spider bite. Red cellulitis that is spreading, center is open draining. What antibiotic?
See your doctor: Skin infections are most commonly caused by S. aureus or "staph." The resistant form is known as MRSA. Antibiotic choice depends on the patient's other medical problems but Cephalexin is a common choice for the non-resistant form and Doxycycline and Linezolid are the most effective oral antibiotics for MRSA. Your provider can culture the wound to tailor antibiotics specifically to the infection.See 1 more doctor answer
Spider bite: Seek medical care asap if you think a spider bit you ; you have severe pain (can be felt at bite site ; possible chest, back or abdomen); abdominal cramping /rigidness or ulceration of skin at site. You may need a tetanus shot (if you don't know when your last shot was or it has been > 10 years). Also medical care if you develop signs of secondary infection. Clean area w antibacterial soap.
Depends on symptoms: Some sources say a hobo spider bite is like a typical bug bite while other sources say there are bigger symptoms and some dead skin at the bite site (like with a brown recluse). Some sources believe there are too many cases of mistaken identity with hobo spiders, so it's not known if real hobo spider bites are that bad at all. A doctor can evaluate, if the bite is any worse than a simple bug bite.
Painful spider bite: A brown recluse spider can make a painful bite in a human, which can turn quickly into a area of ulceration, that may heal very slowly with a scar. The best way to treat such a spider bite is to prevent being bitten. If you are bitten, get to your doctor right away for possible injection of cortisone right into the bite area, or take oral prednisone, and be given other local care.
Antigen response: The true response to a brown recluse bite is severe reaction to a foreign protein. It frequently gets infected also. So, the recommended treatment by a trained physician, is an antibiotic, an anti lepromatous medication and a steroid pack. This can be a serious problem requiring hospitalization, particularly in a child. Complications such as kidney failure can occur.See 1 more doctor answer
Time: Most spider bites cause only a small local allergic reaction. If this is all it is some anitbiotic ointment a bandaid and time (1 to 2 days) and it should be fine. If it looks like it is getting infected (increasing redness, pain or not improving) you should see your doctor. Only a small minority of spider bites cause infection or serious skin injury.See 1 more doctor answer
Antivenom: There is a specific Phoneutria spider anti-venom. But only 2.3% of bites require anti-venom since they have small fangs. Their bites to humans usually don't lead to envenomization.
Black widow spider bite symptoms what are the symptoms of a black widow spider bite and what is the recommended treatment?
Black Widow Spider: Black widow spider bites can cause localized pain. This can lead to cramping of muscles in the are of the bite. Or there can be generalized cramping of muscles, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, chest pain, difficulty breathing and tremor. If pain is significant or you have generalized body symptoms- seek medical care. For severe symptoms call 911.See 1 more doctor answer
Depends: Different spiders cause different reactions. For less toxic spider bite, which are the most common, it usually takes 7-10 days. To decrease pain and swelling, I have found the use of orally administered steroids to lessen pain and swelling.
Could there be a doctor in the house that knows anything about treatment for brown recluse spider bites?
Several treatments: Recluse bite treatment ranges from essentially local care with cleaning and topical antibiotic ointment to taking oral antibiotics to requiring surgical treatment, hyperbaric oxygen treatment and other more aggressive treatments. There are degrees of envenomation and local tissue response. If you are concerned or if in a critical location (face, genitals, around eye, etc) see md immediately.See 1 more doctor answer
Should I seek treatment for this insect bite? Possible spider bite - 2 small marks 1/2" apart surrounded by large (4" diameter) red area.
See the MD: May be serious. See the dermatologist asap. If you are near deer populations, it may be deer tic bite. This can result in lyme disease which can be very serious. Get to md.
Think I got spider bite 2 days ago. I thought it was an ingrown hair and picked at it. How do I know if it when to seek treatment?
If there is redness: If the area becomes more swollen, red or painful it is likely you have an infection and not just a spider bite. We often see patients in the ER with "spider bites" which turn out to be infections from hair, pimple or boil these often grow MRSA or resistant Staph infection so it is better to get it checked sooner rather than later if it is looking red or infected. Usually treated with Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or
