Can't enlarged tonsils cause a speech delay in a two year old?

Can't enlarged tonsils cause a speech delay in a two year old?

I've never seen it: I've dealt with the issue for three decades & never seen it as a primary cause. If the kid has a sleep disorder related to sleep apnea/tonsil size I could see it causing chronic health problems, but not changing the emergence of speech & language skills in a kid that was ready.

Why doesn't my 3-year-old son with autism answer to his name? He knows his name, hears well, and has quite a bit of speech, so he should be able to.

Why doesn't my 3-year-old son with autism answer to his name? He knows his name, hears well, and has quite a bit of speech, so he should be able to.

Common autism trait: One of the hallmarks of autism is the impaired ability to recognize or interact to social cues in the usual way. No one really knows why this happens, but is quite common in autistic children. If possible, a hearing screen can be performed to make sure hearling loss is not a contributing factor.

2 1/2 year old MRI results were a large amount of white spots, I was told this is why he has a major speech and motor skill delay. Is this true?

2 1/2 year old MRI results were a large amount of white spots, I was told this is why he has a major speech and motor skill delay. Is this true?

More than likely: It is! If you are not sure or not ready to accept it, get a second opinion. Hard to say without details of your child's medical history. What is the diagnosis? Was he premie? Any defects in the chromosomes etc? Please sit down and talk to your pediatrician or neurologist treating your child to understand it better.

My 17 year old sister blacked out 2 days ago and now a few times a day she'll feel like she is blacking outshe gets weak, dizzy sleepy slurs speech?

My 17 year old sister blacked out 2 days ago and now a few times a day she'll feel like she is blacking outshe gets weak, dizzy sleepy slurs speech?

Needs to see an MD: There are several things that can cause people to be dizzy and to faint. The most common cause is dehydration. Being sleepy and slurring your speech is very concerning, since it could be a serious neurologic problem. She should see a doctor, and go to an urgent care center if she can't get an appointment soon.

Is cognition affected by open heart surgery? 2.5 year old operated on at 6 weeks old. Angry, frustrated, slow speech, poor attention. - Connection?

Is cognition affected by open heart surgery? 2.5 year old operated on at 6 weeks old. Angry, frustrated, slow speech, poor attention. - Connection?

Possible: Cardiopulmonary bypass, anaesthesia, blood transfusions may all have cognitive consequences. Your child is still young enough that the brain should have the opportunity to heal. I would encourage you to get a neurologic evaluation as soon as possible, as well as seeing a pediatric behaviour specialist to assess the extent of the problem and treatment options

Speech therapist told me that omega 3 helps with speech delay. Is this true? If so, how many mg. Daily for my 2 1/2 year old daughter?

Speech therapist told me that omega 3 helps with speech delay. Is this true? If so, how many mg. Daily for my 2 1/2 year old daughter?

Ridiculous Claim: There is absolutely no research supporting that claim by your speech therapist. Thus there is no known " right" dose! It should only be true.

My 3 and a half year old has speech problems. He is getting better, but I am trying to toilet train him. But he refuses to sit on the potty?

Wait a While: Children are potty trained at different ages. Your son is just not ready. The average us male is potty trained by 3.5 yrs old. Encourage him, but don't push as this could lead to toilet resistance.

My toddler is one year old & he has a tongue tie. How do I know of it will affect his speech or not?

My toddler is one year old & he has a tongue tie. How do I know of it will affect his speech or not?

You won't yet: Honestly, ones that look terrible may cause no speech issues and others that seem mild can cause severe ones. If your boy has issues with intelligibility of his speech (compared to other kids his age), have him checked out. A speech therapist or peds ENT would be able to assess this if your pediatrician isn't sure. At this point if it isn't causing issues I wouldn't stress about it.

My 70 year old grandmother had a stroke which effected the speech portion of her brain, what's the likelihood that she will recover?

My 3 year old has been stuttering for a few months. Mostly when he is excited. Should I seek a speech therapist? What can I do to help?

My 3 year old has been stuttering for a few months. Mostly when he is excited. Should I seek a speech therapist? What can I do to help?

Be patient: Many go through a transient stuttering phase at that age. It lasts a few months and fades. Try to be patient with him and do not call him out/correct him or complete his sentences. Discuss this with your doc at any future visit and s/he can sample his speech patterns. Many school districts offer free "child find" services for 3 and older to look at speech issues.

Autistic 8 year old boy has brother (5 years) with speech impairment, their cousin (6 years) is hyperlexic. Do you recommend any genetic testing?

Autistic 8 year old boy has brother (5 years) with speech impairment, their cousin (6 years) is hyperlexic. Do you recommend any genetic testing?

No: There are probably genetic factors in all of these, but these are polygenic. Hyperlexic kids often do very well in life. You won't find a single locus mutated that will inform a decision about preventing more children like this from being born. Genetic testing is for major, catastrophic illnesses like cystic fibrosis or muscular dystrophy -- single-gene diseases.

Can tinnitus in a one year old cause developmental delay in speech?

Hearing loss can: Cause speech delay. Tinnitus in a one year old would be difficult to ascertain. Suggest asking the person who made the diagnosis. Congenital tinnitus is not generally associated with either.
