Really nervous about vaginal exam, speculum always hurts and i can never relax enough. What can I do and how uncomfortable is rectal exam?
Uncomfortable: Both the vaginal and rectal exams are uncomfortable, but should not be painful. You can request a smaller speculum. They come in different sizes. Try to relax the muscles on the inside of your thighs by letting your legs fall open. That will reduce the pressure of the speculum. ...Read more
Can a speculum from a vaginal exam cause an injury that leads to pain in the perineum area (while wiping) and a swollen lymph node in groin for a week?
Probably not, but...: It's unlikely the speculum exam caused this problem. I wouldn't say it's impossible, but I would want to know the reason for your pelvic exam a week ago and whether that problem is the cause of your symptoms. Either way, contact the doctor's office; they'll want to check this out. Good luck. ...Read more

I : I am sorry you had such an unpleasant experience. Your doctor definitely could have handled the situation a little differently. Her saying "i have to get out of here" and walking out so abruptly was inappropriate and inconsiderate because it made you feel uncomfortable. Please take into consideration the fact that doctors are human and make mistakes like everyone else. Where you go from here is completely up to you. You can chalk it up as an unfortunate situation forgive the doctor and move on; you can call or visit the doctor and tell her that her words and/or actions made you uncomfortable and embarassed, lastly you can contact the doctor's supervisor (if applicable) or office manager and ask how you make a formal complaint. The choice is yours. Regardless of how what you do, i hope you can find a way to get over what happened. Take care. ...Read more

One need not worry about hymens when seeing her doctor, as it cannot matter in a free, modern, equitable society. ...Read more

Sure, but...: It's a simple task if just looking for lost objects, such as a missing tampon. Not hard to do if checking to see if IUD strings are still there. Trying to examine the cervix and the front/back/side walls of one's own vagina is much harder (even for contortionists), in part because one needs to have examined many other vaginas in order to know what looks normal and what looks odd. It's not easy. ...Read more
