I had a back spasm last night and one again this afternoon. Right after the spasms my back aches for a while.?
Muscle: Muscular back spasms are very common. Try a warm bath or heating pad to the affected area and a temporary NSAID (Ibuprofen). Most resolve fairly quickly. Several things: It could be due to trauma, like whiplash injuries or heavy work. Neck degenerative arthritis can do this. Irritation of some of the small nerves to the neck muscles are a possibility. That is the classic presentation of Muscle spasm. Icing, Application of either OTC Asper cream, IcyHot or Flex all or Solanpas may help you. Oral intake of Ibuprofen or Naprosyn (naproxen) may be more effective.
