Soy Based Infant Formulas Medication
Depends on situation: Some folks prefer the bovine protein as more human like & there is some question whether the soy lives up to its quality. That said, most kids would never have any appreciable difference in growth/development either way.The exception comes if a kid is intolerant to one. If so, the other product or a specialty formula like alumentum would be less likely to cause GI symptoms. ...Read more
Depends: Formula is not paperclips. There can be minor differences in the ingredients that babies gut may deal with differently. This can result in changes in digestive patterns, cramping, loose stools, constipation etc.while switching back and forth. That said, some kids won't notice any difference and will do well,(or poorly) on one or both. Best find one that works and stick with it. ...Read more
My infant has been having dysbiosis. What can I do if i cannot nurture her enough, and i need to give her some baby formula?
Yes: Soy-based formula is safe and fine to use, but babies usually start on cow milk formula. The nutritional value of formulas in america are standardized, so they have similar amounts of calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat. There are, however, different sources for the ingredients. Some formulas use cow milk protein, while others use soy protein. The sugar in the formula may be different too. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Soy formula: Let's start by saying breast is always best. But if this is absolutely not an option and formula a must, soy is perfectly adequate for nutrition. Many babies have difficulty handling cow's milk proteins or the lactose present in cow's milk. Soy is both lactose free and cow milk protein free. All formulas are supplemented equally with regard to vitamins and minerals. Brand does NOT MATTER. ...Read more
1 month 3 weeks baby who I've been combining formula and breast fed but just recently I changed he's formula to soy based. He pooped dark green
Normal variation: The main agent adding color to the poo is the material made by the liver called bile. It starts out a dark green and goes thru the yellows to brown depending on the influences of various factors in the intestines. Rapid transit thru the system, as may occur with ore bulk or breast feeding may have a green, yellow or brown appearance. ...Read more
My infant has had runny seedy poos for three weeks now and cries a lot after feeds. Is it ok to mix/wean soy formula with his milk based formula?
Finding out: information on this. Uncooked corn-starch (UCCS) has been the mainstay of therapy for the hepatic glycogen storage diseases. Youd want to start formula with what a pediatric endocrinologist suggests is the best. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/112568 but the reports Ive seen say you also need supplemental glucose carefully formulated into the soy milk ...Read more
Elemental formulas: For those who become intolerant to bovine and soy protein, there are elemental formulas that contain predigested proteins that work. You can find one (alumentum, alumentum ready to feed, nutramagen, elecare). All are expensive but after 4-6 weekss on one, the gut may heal enough to tolerate other foods. Work with your ped to find one that works for your kid.All are difficult. ...Read more
My baby is 12 month the doktor tell me take soy-based formul isomil milk is isomill use for along time bad or not?
IT DEPENDS ON REASON: If this was recommended due to a dairy allergy, you need not stay with a soy formula...You could use a brand like SILK. Long term use is still recommended. If it is not due to a dairy protein allergy, have it tested and then make a decision ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Absolutely: Alimentum and nutramigen are the first two that are readily available that come to mind. They are a bit more expensive, but very easy to digest and no soy anything. They don't taste as good, so if the baby scoffs at eating them, can put one drop of vanilla in the entire bottle to flavor. ...Read more
Positioning: What is the age of the child? If older than 3 months and if severe GERD I would consider adding rice cereal 1 tablespoon per 4 oz of the formula to thicken the feed. In a baby less than 2 months I would try positioning in a 45 degree position after feedings for an hr to see if it helps. Fomula switching will not improve GERD if that is the correct diagnosis. ...Read more
See a Specialist: This is a complicated question that cannot be well answered in only 400 characters. The problems with formula may be allergy or lactose intolerance or several other things. You should have the baby tested for soy and milk allergy and you may need to try several formulas before you find one that is well tolerated. Enfamil AR thickens in the stomach so it is less likely to reflux back up the esop ...Read more
My baby drinks soy isomil infant formula and every time he drinks it his eye swell. Is that an allergic reation.

Processed soy: There is good evidence that fermented organic soy is part of a healthy lifestyle for men & women -think miso, tempah, etc... However, the highly processed soy found in textured vegetable protein and soy milk is not healthy. Most commercial non-organic soy is processed using highly toxic hexane. I recmmend avoiding all non-organic processed soy. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Soy and thyroid: If you have thyroid tissue, and require levothyroxine because your existing thyroid is underactive, then soy intake as a regular food can make your thyroid tissue less active; it inhibits iodine metabolism; if you had your thyroid removed surgically, then soy will not interfere with levothyroxine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
