After i hiccup, it feels like im going to stop breathing, and sometimes i get heart palpitations. Does this sound familiar? What could be going on?

Palpitations: Sometimes the sensation of diaphragmatic spasm (hiccup) can be confused with irregular heartbeats. That's the most serious thing i can think of without the opportunity to examine you. A doctor can easily diagnose this in their clinic if it's a frequent symptom, or send you home with a piece of equipment you wear that can catch your heart rhythm at home. I'd certainly see your doctor about this. ...Read more

I have frequent heart palpitations and it kinda worrys me but my doctor said it was due to caffeine and smoking. Does that sound right?

Nicotine & xanthines: Nicotine (in tobacco) is actually a neurotransmitter & is used by the body to tell the heart & vessels how to adapt. Methylxanthines (like caffeine) can interfere w/ this system, just like taking a mega-hit of nicotine (by smoking). Excessive caffeine intake is associated with (but debated as to cause of) atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart beat that can cause palpitations. Smoking helps no 1! ...Read more

Palpitations: Depending on your age and other medical history, your physician can rule in or rule out diagnosis . You may need a longer heart monitoring like event monitor and may need electrophysiology consultation to look more deeply into the palpitations. Anxiety is a possible diagnosis but after every other possible cause has been eliminated including drugs prescribed or otherwise including otc supplements. ...Read more

Heart palpitations that go to your head or makes head throb ? I had my heart checked all is pretty much normal but I still get this now and then

Seek a cardiologist: You will need to see a cardiologist in person so that your heart rhythm can be assessed. Starting with an ekg and possibly an home monitor such as a holter monitor (24-48hrs) an event monitor (up to 30 days) or in extreme cases a surgically implantable loop recorder (2-3years) as the palpitation may come and go and rarely are "caught" while in the doctors office. ...Read more
