What is causing sores on my head? Scalp is itching and flaking

There: There are several possibilities, but it sounds most likely like psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis which are red, scaly, flaky conditions of the scalp. Perhaps first try treatment with otc shampoos like nizoral, (ketoconazole) selsun blue or coal tar. If those don't work, consider prescription treatments with steroid shampoos/foams/oil treatments. Another option would be small injections of steroid into each sore (assuming you just have a few). For those with severe involvement, oral medications might be necessary and can help. ...Read more

Dermatolo. Can check: If a person is getting sores on the scalp, a primary care doctor or a dermatologist (skin doctor) can check to see if there is a bacterial infection such as folliculitis. If there is an infection, oral antibiotics may be needed.
