Sores On Head And Scalp
There: There are several possibilities, but it sounds most likely like psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis which are red, scaly, flaky conditions of the scalp. Perhaps first try treatment with otc shampoos like nizoral, (ketoconazole) selsun blue or coal tar. If those don't work, consider prescription treatments with steroid shampoos/foams/oil treatments. Another option would be small injections of steroid into each sore (assuming you just have a few). For those with severe involvement, oral medications might be necessary and can help. ...Read more

I dyed my hair a few weeks ago due to irritation I had sores on my scalp it's currently healed now I just have a really dry scalp & flaky. Now I have?
Shedding scalp skin: Your scalp was irritated from the chemicals in the dye which is common. Once the irritation occurs the skin becomes inflamed and sheds (similar to what happens when you get a sunburn). Coconut oil is a great way to sooth the scalp and great for your hair and may help your symptoms. ...Read more

Scalp itchy/sore: Consider coconut oil massage when showering rinse off or rinse w/ 1 part apple cider vinegar, 3 parts water or massage olive oil and then place paste of baking soda on scalp for 1/2 hour and rinse. I think I am experiencing a chemical burn or allergic reaction after using hair dye. My scalp has sores that are weeping. I do have Seborrheic Dermatitis. What can I do at home?
Exam needed: Reactions to hair dye do occur and will resolve after a period of time. Since you have more than redness or itching, I recommend that you be examined by your physician or a dermatologist to see if secondary infection is present and if so, appropriate treatment can be started. In the meantime apply warm soaks and, if possible, apply a combination of antibacterial and cortisone type cream until seen ...Read more

What do you think I have? My scalp looks like the gray patch ringworm at times there has been sores like a rash or a pimple. Also, black little nits like a fruit fly maybe? I feel itchy with scalp, hair feels different like it is nappy in spots, also hard
From: From your description, you may have ringworm of the scalp which is actually caused by a fungus, not a worm. Of course, without examining you and sending cultures, I cannot tell for sure what it is. A fungal infection of the scalp is more difficult to treat than fungal infections elsewhere. Treatment usually includes 1-2 months of a prescription oral medication. You should give your doctor a call and have them take a look at it. They will hopefully be able to tell exactly what it is so you can get the proper treatment. Good luck! ...Read more
