2 separate problems: These 2 problems should be addressed separately. 1. swollen gums - can be a sign that you already have, gum disease or dental abscess. See your dentist. 2. Abx are way overused in our society and according to the infectious disease society of america, 98% of all sinusitis is viral and does not need abx. Yes: You may be allergic to indoor allergens which include house dust mites, molds, pet etc. However upset stomach occurs only rarely mostly from profuse post-nasal drips. You have time: If this is really strep you have 9-10 days from the beginning of symptoms to start the antibiotics that will prevent rheumatic fever. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nsaid's. ENT consult: Sore throat often causes ear pain because of shared (cranial) nerves. You are young and nonsmoker. If it persists for longer than 2 weeks, then get checked out by a doctor. Cough: Have you been coughing tons? I will defer your ongoing upper respiratory query to the ent's but have heard of MRSA or other mean bugs not responding to traditional treatment.
