Inflammation likely: The combination of symptoms and timing make rebound inflammation very likely. If you recently tapered off or stopped your steroid drop typically used after surgery, your inflammation may not have been completely cleared. If this is the case, the inflammation can resurge when the steroid is removed causing pain, soreness, and redness. See your doctor for evaluation and treatment. Good luck! ...Read more

Sore throat is a fairly common symptom associated with many illnesses. Most of the time it resolves on its own without any other issues. Occasionally it can be due to something more serious that needs treatment. Reasons to seek care are:
- any fever - since it could be strep and you can't tell without an exam/testing
- if it lasts longer than 3 or 4 days
- any difficulty opening your mouth
- unable to swallow
- severe pain
- bleeding in the throat
- redness or swelling on the outside of the neck
- any difficulty breathing or noisy breathing
in the meantime, taking Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen for pain, drinking plenty of fluids such as hot tea/broth or cold liquids and a spoonful of honey can help. Good luck! ...Read more

Maybe strep, etc...: Nose and throat symptoms can be from cold viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc... It can be difficult to tell what the cause is. If symptoms only last 1-2 days, it is more likely allergies or irritation. Doctors have rapid 5-minute tests for strep, so a primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start antibiotics "right away", which means within the first 3 days of strep symptoms. ...Read more

In my region, pollen levels are the highest in the last 50 years. I have a sore throat, running nose and am very tired, no fever. Allergy or cold?
Probably cold: Allergies can sometimes cause mild irritation of the throat, but it shouldn't be downright painful. They are also usually accompanied by sneezing and itching of the eyes and nose. With sore throat and fatigue, I would suspect a cold, which may not present with fever. Get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of fluids. See your doctor if you have any questions or if your don't feel better in a few days. ...Read more

I am having sore throat and running nose, so I went to pharmacist and he gave ciprofloxacin hydrochloride 500mg, is it the right treatment?
No: Sounds like you have a viral illness, and this will not be treated with a broad spectrum antibiotic. This is why pharmacists should not be dispensing meds without a doctor's orders. Would treat your symptoms with otc meds, gargle with saline, take acetaminophen. You will be better in a week with Ciprofloxacin and in 7 days without it. ...Read more
