No cure: Sore throat and cough are symptoms of wide range of diseases, most common being throat infection (pharyngitis). Some drugs, asthma, heart burn, lung cancer, allergic rhintis etc can cause those symptoms. So we have to treat the underlying problem and the symptoms will automatically go away or get better. Cough and soreness: If your sore throat and cough has been present with fever for more than 2 to 3 days, see your doctor. Your can try throat lozenges and cough droops for the cough. To help break up the cough plain cough medication without cough suppressants should help. Drink lots of fluids and consider tea with honey to sooth your throat.
Most types run their: Course. If you have a significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see your medical provider & get a strep throat test & culture. Saltwater gargles are very helpful. Mix a teaspoon of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle with this several times a day. You can gargle with aloe vera juice a couple of times per day. A mixture of chamomile tea with honey & a small amount of lemon juice.
Cough: If viral, no real cure. Just symptom relief and time. If bacterial, then appropriate antibiotics may shorten duration of illness. Always include your doctor if symptoms are not improving in what you feel is an appropriate time frame or are worsening/concerning.
Remedies: Hydrate well. Consider using a warm air vaporizer. Mix several tsps of honey into herbal tea with a squeeze of lemon juice.
