Unlikely: Your young age and a short stint of smoking makes it unlikely. However, there is an increasing rate of head and neck cancer in young people related to human papilloma viruses probably related to oral sex. See an ENT doctor for complete examination. ...Read more

I have a mild sore throat that hurts only when I swallow. It also affects my ear. But both the sore throat and the ear pain are only on one side. I had a cold a couple of weeks ago and I still have a cough from that. What could this be?

Sinus infection?: cold symptoms for more than about 10-14 days may indicate a sinus infection or ear infection. The pain on one side could also be from an infected lymph node or tonsillar infection. If you have fever, see a doctor today. Otherwise call your doc and have them check you out. ...Read more

Nopostnasal drip?: This could cause 1 sided throat pain. If not, see an ENT Dr. and get scoped in the nose to see the back of the throat. They should be able to diagnose your problems. If you do have postnasal drip, try flonase or rhinocort nasal spray and see if this helps. ...Read more

Bloody postnasal drip, left ear pain only when swallowing and yawning. I'm 20,cancer? Sore throat on and off for 3 weeks too.

Sinus infection?: If you have not noted any blood in your nasal secretion, then one must consider sinusitis as a potential cause. The ear pain however is more suggestive of a jaw problem (teeth grinding, gum chewing etc) and you may need to ask your dentist to check it out if the problem fails to resolve. Cancer is unlikely but not totally impossible even at your age. ...Read more
