Need more info: My recommendation would be to see a doctor asap since coughing up blood never has a benign cause. On the other hand it would be helpful to know how long you have been ill, to whom you were exposed, whether you smoke, have fever, chills, nausea, shortness of breath, etc. Make a list of everything and take it with you to the doctor. ...Read more

URI: You are in the midst of an upper respiratory infection. The productive cough indicates there is moderate phlegm inside your lungs. Drink lots of water to help thin it out. Drink hot tea/honey for the cough and consider some cilantro (usually I do pico de gallo) to help bring up mucous. I've been coughing up phlegm in the morning after I wake up on and off for months, sometimes brown. My Dr. doesn't seemed concerned but still it persists. Also occasionally experiencing a minor sore throat. No allergies to my knowledge and non-smoking,
