I've got a sore throat after surgery, any help soothing it?

Sore Throat Surgery: A sore throat after surgery is most often due to the tube that was placed through your mouth to help you breathe during surgery. You can use throat lozenges to help with the discomfort. It will go away after a couple of days.

I need your expertise, is a severe sore throat after surgery normal?

I need your expertise, is a severe sore throat after surgery normal?

Sorry, I don't have: Enough info to provide a direct answer. Did you have endotracheal intubation (a breathing tube)? - that can be a source of pain. Did you have ear/nose/throat surgery (like a tonsillectomy)? The best thing to do in this situation is to ask the surgeon or other provider on the team. Take care.

I am having elective surgery this am but developed a sore throat and cough. Will surgery continue?

I am having elective surgery this am but developed a sore throat and cough. Will surgery continue?

Possibly not...: For an elective procedure, you need to be in your best possible health to avoid post-op complications. If the procedure is delayed, it is only because the surgeon and anesthesiologist don't want you to have any untoward side effects. Any procedure, and anesthesia itself, carries inherent risk. If the doctors think you should reschedule, they are looking out for your best interests.

Can you still have a bloody pjlegm and sore throat if a tube is not used for surgery?

Can you still have a bloody pjlegm and sore throat if a tube is not used for surgery?

Unusual: Depending upon the type of surgery it would be unusual not to be intubated. You can certainly have bloody phlegm and sore throat from other causes, but should definitely see a doctor to get that diagnosed and treated appropriately. Good luck.

Talk to your doctor: With recent surgery history now having cough, it should be wise to come see your doctor again. We don't know your medical history especially history of your recent surgery so we cannot give you good advice. Talk to your doctor who know more about you and what risks if any from your recent illness that might relate to your current cough and sore throat.

Better to defer: It is probably better to defer surgery until you have recovered from your illness. A sore throat can make recovery from surgery more difficult and painful not to mention that your lungs may not be in optimal condition to tolerate general anesthesia.

I had gallbladder surgery month ago and last three weeks have heartburn and sore throat. PPI not working could it be bile and how is it treated?

I had gallbladder surgery month ago and last three weeks have heartburn and sore throat. PPI not working could it be bile and how is it treated?

Reflux?: Assuming this is reflux esophagitis you might want to try an H-2 blocker rather than a PPI. The best thing, however, would be to contact the surgeon and let them make the decision. Good luck and best wishes for getting better soon.

Please: Please be more specific as to the type of surgery and anesthesia to be used. I would recommend calling your surgeons office and have a message passed to the surgeon on call to have the question answered. They would be more upset having to cancel the surgery because you took something than having to answer a question on the weekend.

Had open heart surgery march 21 week and half ago have sore throat and can't talk well very horse sound is this normal I been gargling with salt wate?

Tracheal intubation: The raspiness and sore throat are very possibly due to the endotracheal tube that was inserted for general anaesthesia and which caused some irritation. Continue the salt water gargles for now and speak to your surgeon about this at your next follow-up.

My son had heart surgery a month ago today he. Woke up with stuffy. Nose sore throat and ear ach?

My son had heart surgery a month ago today he. Woke up with stuffy. Nose sore throat and ear ach?

The odds are. ..: That he has an upper respiratory infection +/- otitis media (ear infection). He should see his primary care physician. It probably has nothing to do with his heart surgery 1 month ago, but it would be a good idea for his doc to check him.

Sore throat runny nose blocked nose sneezing coughing had it for 3 days now. 3 week ago had jaw surgery my right side- teeth hurts I little.

Normal: The recovery time for jaw surgery can easily surpass 3 weeks. Be patient. At the same time, you are still susceptible to colds, allergies, etc. Also, it is normal for your teeth to still hurt. When in doubt, CALL YOUR SURGEON. We like to be kept involved in our patients recovery process.
