Possible allergy: Common symptoms of allergy are sneezing, itchy nose, nasal congestion and often post nasal drip leading to throat irritation. If an antihistamine helps the symptoms, then this supports an allergy. Neither colds nor the flu last a month. Sinus infections can feel like a cold that doesn't resolve. If continues, then an allergist can check for allergies. ...Read more

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to look for strep). A scrotal ultrasound may also be helpful. I would advise that if your symptoms persist longer than three months, you should probably see an urologist. ...Read more
