I have a swollen, stiff and sore knuckle. It is stiff to bend and sore. I did not do anything to injure it. Could this be from bowling?

It's possible!: Depending on which knuckle is involved - if the knuckle that hurts is one that was supporting the wt of the ball the joint could be strained when the fingers leave the holes of the ball. Not very common, but possible. It is usually best treated by applying a cold pack for 20 min at a time, and resting the joint. See your doctor if the pain doesn't show signs of improvement in a few days. ...Read more

No relation to pain: Cracking your knuckles has no relation to pain in the digits. The sound of knuckle cracking is the pop of a nitrogen bubble that develops in the joint. Keep elevated: 19y/o Female hit left knuckle on doorknob about half hr ago, icing it but still swollen, somewhat numb & sore. These are expected body response for the acute injury described. Continue with icing on and off over the next 24hrs while awake, but do NOT freeze your hand. Keep elevated and avoid using it over the next day or so. OTC analgesics if needed.
