I have a bump underneath on my gum. Its sore when I put my tongue to is could it be an ulcer or absess?

It sounds like you have a traumatic ulcer. The problem with them is that you probably keep biting it. Without the repeat trauma, they take 10-14 days to heal.
Keep it clean by brushing it with peroxide-the one that is indicated as an oral antiseptic.
You can also buy oragel to soothe it. If you can find it, get the one for "denture sore mouth".
