Red eye: Not enough information, is there tearing, eye pain, blurry vision, any other symptoms such as fever, sore throat, swollen glands, cracked red lips, any allergy symptoms, cough, how long you had it ? Rhinoconjuctivitis: Different causes could lead to this problem. The 1st step is to clean his eyes with regular tap water and have him rinse his nose to clear away mucous. IF symptoms have been present for more that 4-5 days and he's also complained of ear discomfort, you should take him to the doctor because in some cases he may also have an ear infection and need an antibiotic eye drop and even an oral antibiotic. ...Read more

Some thoughts: Couple common problems can do this: corneal abrasion (scratched eye)-perhaps something got into that eye. Subconjunctival hemorrhage-when a tiny blood vessel beneath the surface of the eye breaks (not always assoc with a known injury). It's usually painless and resolves w/in 2 wks w/o specific tx.
