Phlebitis likely: Phlebitis is simply an inflamed vein. It could also be thrombophlebitis with is an inflamed vein with a clot in it. My 18 year old daughter was stung by a wasp two days ago. The sting site (her elbow) is very red and swollen. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sure: Scrape the area with a fingernail or use tweezers to remove it. Don't pinch the stinger -- that can inject more venom. Ice the area. If you were stung on your arm or leg, elevate it.
Remove any tight-fitting jewelry from the area of the sting. As it swells, rings or bracelets might be difficult to remove.
Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain. Use antihistamine for itching, you can apply calamine lotion. Good Luck. ...Read more

Multiple welts on lower legs and up to elbow. Almost like mosquito bites but sting more and don't appear to be bites. Any idea of cause?

Multiple welts on lower legs and up to elbow. Almost like mosquito bites but sting more and don't appear to be bites. Any idea of cause?

A couple of thoughts: First, skin problems can not really be managed without a visual. Consider uploading a picture to HealthTap virtual consults. Painful welts can be a condition called erythema nodosum, but it would be unusual on the forearms, & usually occurs in younger women. Urticaria can result from an allergic reaction, but is usually itchy. Would favor inflammatory over infectious cause. See doc/Dermatologist. ...Read more

Why is it for the last 3 days I have small red spots that itch and sting like ants, particularly on the hands, elbows, legs, and feet?

Many possibilities: What you describe, painful and itching red spots on your extremities, could be related to an allergic reaction, to something you have come in contact with or eaten, or could be due to a viral infection. It is hard to be more specific, but I see you are trying an antihistamine and topical steroid cream. See your doctor soon if these treatments are not working. ...Read more

Likely ok: You have passed the danger period for anaphylaxis to the sting and can expect some local swelling for a few more days. If you do have anaphylaxis to a stinging insect, you need to consider getting tested by an allergist and obtain allergy shots to protect yourself. At the least, have adrenaline injectors available at all times. ...Read more

I am allergic to bees. Yesterday I was stung on the arm below the elbow area. Took 2 aspirins right away, washed the area and applied Benadryl itch c?

What reaction???: You do not state what reaction you had to the bee sting. A true allergic reaction would have caused hives, possible wheezing and trouble breathing and even collapse. Quite. An injection of epinephrine and oral Benadryl and urgent medical attention is appropriate in that case. Swelling and itching in the area of the sting is a normal local reaction, and Rx oral or top Benadryl + cold compress ...Read more

Was bit/stung below elbow. Extreme sharp pain & felt hot. Took 1 Benadryl, (diphenhydramine)applied ice. Redness has lessened but area tingling. Do I need to go to ER?

Not Necessarily: If you have no history of allergy to bee or insect stings, and the reaction remains local to the area of the sting itself, then you may continue with ice and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) as needed. Taking several more doses of scheduled Benadryl (diphenhydramine) as directed and an anti-inflammatory like Motrin may be helpful to ensure resolution. If symptoms worsen to include throat or breathing tightness then go to the ED. ...Read more
