Seek Options: It's premature to schedule hysterectomy (removal of uterus) for a solid 6 cm ovarian mass. It may be benign (teratoma, cystadenoma, endometrioma, etc) versus malignant. Ultrasound can give info to grade these risks (nodules, septations types, etc) but cannot diagnose cancer. In fact, only tissue bx can DX cancer. My ca125 levels are slightly elevated and there is a solid mass on my ovary, should I be concerened that it is ovarian cancer?
Depends: Ask your gyn. A solid mass is concerning, but your age, menopausal status, and the ultrasound characteristics are important as well. Elevated ca-125 suggests ovarian cancer, but may be somewhat elevated in many benign conditions, as well, including endometriosis.
