Doctor insights on:
Solid Food 6 Months
Different strokes..: There are foods that tend to be more allergenic, but for any individual infant, the rules may not hold true. That's why you introduce foods one at a time, and watch and see if any type of reaction. But in general, seafood, nut containing foods, citrus and eggs and egg containing foods have more potentials towards allergies and should be introduced later rather than sooner.
SOLID FOODS: Start with cereal mix with milk in semi-liquid form. Give by spoon feeding and watch her swallow her food. Amount is a small bowl. Gradually introduce fruits and veggies as tolerated.
7.5 month old lo poos abou 6 times/day. Since she doesn't eat solid food much (50ml/day) i kinda force her eat. Pooing 6 times means she eat too much?
No: A baby who drinks mostly milk, especially breast milk, at this age will have frequent loose stools. This is perfectly normal. Make sure the baby keeps her well child visits to keep track of her growth and development.
Liquids, etc.: Clear Liquid diets are non-solid. Usually broth, jello, clear juices without fiber, water, soda, tea etc. Then there are full liquid diets when you can have milk, cream soaps, etc. Depends on what you are treating. Guidelines: When an infant has enough upper body control to indicate hunger and satiety, is taking > 32 oz. Of formula/day or nursing > 8-10 times/day, & is 4-6 months of age. Use single-ingredient baby foods, don't start with the sweet stuff. Blend " people food ", especially if you can hold off till 6 months. A beaba works well, but is expensive. If baby spits food back out, the meal is over.
4 months of age: In general, i give my patients the green light to start solid foods when their baby reaches 4 months. Keep in mind that some babies, especially preemies, may not be developmentally ready for this. By solid foods I am referring to jar baby foods, or foods that you will puree yourself at home. A food should be introduced and given for a minimum of 3 days to watch for allergies.
Need a bit more: Info. Does this mean you can't swallow solid foods and/or is it painful to swallow solid foods. Or is it that you just don't feel like eating solid foods? If it's the former, while you could consider a consult on HealthTap to better guide you, if you have dysphagia, you should see your doc in person for an evaluation, as this is a serious problem.
Office visit: Something is narrowing a portion of your esophagus. It can be anything from enlarged lymph nodes in the midportion of the chest to a tumor. If this has persisted for more than a day or two, see your physician without delay.
Huh?: Complementary to what? What's "it" that shows no interest. Are we discussing an infant with feeding trouble, or something else? Please rephrase your question so we can try to help you.
Ask your doctor: Best to ask your pediatricain first. Start slowly. Solid food will change their digestion so be prepared. They may have food allergies. Solid food does increase the time between feedings and can help them sleep longer at night. Be sure to get the weean off the bottle by age 1. Start with tippi cups by 1o months to prevent cavities. Only water in bottles when they are sleeping.
Baby vitamins: Babies get their vitamins from formula except the breast fed babies need vit d supplements.I recommend my babies to start polyvisol IG they live in an area whare thereis flouride in the tap water at age of 4 months. If they need suplements of flouride i will give them polyflor vitamins i agree with most who are opposed to supplemnting vitamins, but as long as you dont use mega doses, no harm will com.
Delay until 6mo: Solid foods were once used to make up for deficiencies in home made milk formula used in the 50's to 80's.A return to breast FDG & modern formulas changed the value of solids from nutrition, to a pathway to teach baby to eat & transition to table foods.Waiting until 6m allows baby to sit & participate in a feeding, much as the will when older.Start with a few tablespoons as a paste.
What i can do if my baby don't want to take hotchpotch or any solid food? My baby's age 9.11 months.
See your pedi: I have no idea what hotch potch is but if your baby is that age and is not eating any solid food you need to see your pediatrician.
My 8th month old son wont eat a bottle anymore. He just wants solid food. I know he still needs formula in his diet but he will eat about 6oz all day?
Infant Feeding: As long as he is eating, gaining weight and growing, not to worry. Sometimes infants behave differently with regard to eating a particular food item. Six ounces of formula is ok for the time being. Remember not to force eating-, food or formula, they hate this. If too much concern, bring this issue to his pediatrician's attention during 9 months well child visit.See 1 more doctor answer
Breast milk/formula: are all that is needed until infants are at least 4-6 months old. Early introduction of solids has been associated with food allergies and over feeding and obesity. Breast feeding protects against diarrhea illness Also, some high fiber foods may cause diarrhea, gas, cramps. After 6 months, milk may not provide enough iron for blood and muscle growth, so foods that contain iron are recommended.
No limit: As long as you are taking in appropriate calorie and nutrient content via your juices, there is no medical need for solid food.
Let the Baby Decide: There are many variables. The aap recommends no solids until 4-6 months of age.Starting 1 food at a time for 3-4 days to observe possible negative reactions is traditional.Cereal is first, followed by other solids in no specific order. As for quantity, when you have to urge the baby to eat, they are usually done.Remember, there is little evidence as to what is actually the " right" way!See 1 more doctor answer
A little early: Physical readiness to feed occurs @4-6 mos, when baby has doubled her birth weight & takes >32 oz./day of formula or nurses > 8-10x/day. Developmentally, she needs to be able to sit in a high chair, have enough upper body strength to lean forward when hungry & turn away when full, & be able to transfer a scant 1/2 tsp. Of a pureed food from the spoon to her throat. Till then, it's not gonna work.See 2 more doctor answers
