My daughter hurt her pinky finger. We had an X-ray and were told it's not broken, just soft tissue damage. A week later it's still swollen, is this normal?

Yes: Gary, soft tissue injuries can last 7-14 days. Be sure to elevate and ice it. Also, tape it to the finger next to it (we call this buddy taping, and it's what we'd do even if it was broken). If it isn't better in another week, see her doctor. Sometimes small fractures don't show up on initial X-ray. Hope this helps! ...Read more

I: I wonder if you had bleeding from a small blood vessel. If a small blood vessel tore, it would cause bleeding and discoloration. It sounds like there was no injury that you recall, which makes it very unusual to have the swelling or the tear in the blood vessel.

If you have this happen again or see bruising or discoloration, you should be seen and evaluated, or of course if you had any signs of infection in your hand. ...Read more

I got a deep cut on my finger using a knife a few weeks ago. The wound has closed up, but now I have a hard piece of scar tissue there. What can I do?

Depends: It will take 6 weeks for the scars to begin to soften with any incision, and daily massage will help. However, with a deep cut on the hand you want to make sure you have no functional or sensory changes/losses. If you are unsure, seek treatment from a surgeon who specializes in surgery of the hand. ...Read more

Can joints be restored after tissue injury, from cracking nuckles? And why is it painful to stretch my fingers out?

Can joints be restored after tissue injury, from cracking nuckles? And why is it painful to stretch my fingers out?

Get crackin: I am not sure that reliable evidence exists where cracking of knuckles causes tissue injury. Having said that, when joint tissue is damaged, it heals with generation of scar tissue. This tissue may or may not be a problem but it is not normal restored tissue. Pain from stretching anything out could be from over exerting the stretch receptors or from existance of an underlying inflammation. ...Read more

I gave my boyfriend a blowjob/handjob, semen got on his fingers and mine, he whipped it off with a tissue and then fingered me. Could I get pregnant?

Possible: It is possible that he didn't get all the semen off his hand by wiping and introduced some into your vagina when he fingered you so pregnancy is possible but not likely. To be safe, now is the time to consider starting a reliable method of contraception so you won't have to worry. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Joint scar tissue: This can be a difficult problem depending on the cause. Your best best would first be to see a certified hand surgeon for evaluation as to the cause and then recommendations can be made. If you have stiffness from arthritis you may need medication or surgery but if it's scarring from surgery you probably need to see a special hand physical/occupational therapist for exercises. ...Read more

Can a dry precum on finger (wiped by tissue or another finger) cause pregnancy if that finger inserted into woman during her fertile days?

Can a dry precum on finger (wiped by tissue or another finger) cause pregnancy if that finger inserted into woman during her fertile days?

No: In real life, that does not happen. Wetness is one of the requirements for natural human reproduction. Humans cannot naturally reproduce in a fully "dry" situation. That being said, life can surprise you sometimes. Fertile couples have sexual activities have to be ready for that rare "surprise baby". If worried, one can just do a home pregnancy test 3 weeks after the finger event. ...Read more
