I have a medium to small lump right above the left side of my ankle on my left leg. It is not painful at all. Any ideas of what it is?

I have a medium: It could be a cyst which is filled with fluid and can happen after an injury or almost jello type tissue if you have had it for a while or a lipoma, that consists of fatty tissue , both cause no problems. However, if the lump is getting bigger or is not going away, best to see a podiatrist or a surgeon , get an ultrasound and/or an MRI to find exactly what it is. ...Read more

I had 1 large painful lump in lower right leg starting a wewk ago now another has formed. they are about the size of a plum cut in half. it even hurts?

Lump in leg: Tash. The differential diagnosis of these 2 lumps appearing is quite large. If they appeared spontaneously and show no signs of acute inflammation, they could be benign lipomas depending on their position or something more serious depending on appearance. This is something I would bring to your doctor to see and evaluate.thanks ...Read more

Varicose Veins: You seem to be describing varicose veins which typically enlarge and bulge when standing and disappear and decompress when lying. Varicose veins are usually the result of malfunctioning valves in the saphenous system and, in someone your age, there may also be a genetic component. I have a relatively hard lump on the inside of my right leg on the calf muscle. What could it be?

I have a relatively hard lump on the inside of my right leg on the calf muscle. What could it be?

Hard lump: Limited information makes this question difficult. If lump is small and near surface it could be phlebolith which is hardened or calcified vein. If deeper in muscle could be cyst or muscle mass. If you have history of injury then it could be an area of localized muscle spasm or tearing. If this persists you should seek a full examination. ...Read more

Muscle Hernia: Most muscle hernias occur in the lower leg & affect the tibialis anterior muscle. Swelling appears or enlarges when the affected muscle is contracted & disappears or shrinks during muscle relaxation. Most muscle hernias are treated by reassurance since they are asymptomatic and don't affect function. A few painful hernias need surgery. Ultrasound is diagnostic and can exclude muscle tear or tumor. ...Read more
