Granfather was prescribed kayexalate (sodium polystyrene sulfonate) 60gm and then 45gm today and 45gm tomorrow. Shouldnt he be having bm? How long does it take to start workingk?
Kayex not for BM: Kayexalate (sodium polystyrene sulfonate) is a polystyrene salt resin designed to grab onto the excess potassium (dangerous for heart) while in the intestine. It is not to facilitate bm-it actually increases chance of constipation. So, if he is not having bm, don't rely on kayex to help with that. He will likely need other stimulant to help with bm--maybe lactullose etc..Consult his doc. Good luck. ...Read more

Should be OK: Hi. There should be a problem using both drugs. Remember, you MUST take Fosamax (alendronate) once/week on an empty stomach with water (only, and lots of it). I recommend waiting 60 minutes (not 30) before any other medicines, food, or beverages, and in that hour, have MORE water. Fosamax taken properly should have no interaction with Sanctura. ...Read more
