Metabolic Acidosis: In medicine, metabolic acidosis is a condition that occurs when the body produces too much acid or when the kidneys are not removing enough acid from the body. If unchecked, metabolic acidosis leads to acidemia, i.e., blood ph is low (less than 7.35) due to increased production of hydrogen by the body or the inability of the body to form bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) (hco3-) in the kidney. ...Read more

Can I take vitamin C pills (always made of sodium/potassium bicarbonate, (sodium bicarbonate) ascorbate, benzoate...) w. pulmonary hypertension requiring low sodium diet?
Yes, however...: I strongly advise you take Vitamin C, ideally 1000 mg 2-3x/day, but you should try to find forms without sodium. I don't know what's available in Denmark, but in the US you can find ascorbic acid, or calcium or magnesium ascorbate without sodium. Lypo-spheric Vit. C is esp. well-absorbed,but has 120 mg of sodium, but a low sodium diet usually allows 2000mg/day. Vit. C is best with bioflavonoids. ...Read more
I took doxycycline hyclate & water w/added electrolytes (calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium bicarbonate) . Severe skin rash. Connection?
Is potassium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) better than p.chloride in pt with recurring metabolic acidosis? Pot. has been low & magnesium goes low then borderline high
Acid-base: Physiology is like a delicate balance. If one organ fails to carry its weight, another organ has to compensate. For your acid-base balance, bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) (regulated by the kidney) is one side of the balance, and co2 (the lungs responsibility) is the other. If the lungs allow you to accumulate too much co2, then the kidneys (if healthy) will make and retain more bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate). ...Read more
Ckd patient with hyponatremia. Is it safe to take 650 mg sodium bicarbonate with 40 mg lasix (furosemide) to prevent water retention? Is sodium bicarbonate renoprotective?
Depends: Bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate)) is not reno-protective. However, high acid levels in the blood affect heart function, muscle function and kidney function. Reducing the blood acid level (seen by a rising bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) level or pH level) improves muscle function including the heart which improves kidney circulation. It also allows the kidneys to better control potassium levels. You can help the process by avoiding sodas! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
That depends on dose: That depends on dosage. Optimally fluoridated water (0.7ppm) and/or a little above is perfectly safe and beneficial to our teeth. Dosages between 1.5-3 ppm (naturally found in some water in the midwest) can cause dental fluorosis. Dosages between 3-10 ppm (naturally found in some water in china, india & russia) are dangeruos and can cause skeletal fluorosis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
A low sodium salt has contents: 66.6%potassium chloride,33.3%sodium chloride.Should I be concerned on its high potassium or good replacement for salt?
Use caution.: Salt intake and salt replacements are getting a lot of press lately. Sodium load in a diet is getting out of control due to practices of our food industry and taste requirements. People look at the alternatives and Potaccium is one of them. A usual replacement shows that the ratio of NaCL/KCl should be 60/40. So your salt may be showing an unusual ratio. But be aware that it is quantity not ratio. ...Read more

Can these cause any issues with hearing :potassium chloride, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate and sodium dihydrophosphate dihydrate?
Hearing: It is unlikely that any hearing loss is related to the items you list. Hearing tests are essential - I have had them and am wearing hearing aids. Many big stores offer hearing tests at no cost. In my area it is Costco or Sam's Club. There should be something like this all over the USA. ...Read more
Different molecule: Both Potassium Chloride and bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) are used as potassium supplements with the only difference being the part of molecule (the anion) attached to the potassium. The bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) portion of the molecule acts differently than chloride and is responsible for the fizzing in soday. It is for this reason that potassium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) can be used as an aantacid. ...Read more
