Few questions:: #1: Allergic to aspirin? Sometimes those folks react poorly to other NSAIDS. #2: How are your kidneys? If they are totally fine, you don't need renal dosing. #3: What other drugs are you taking? Will they interact? Go to my drug interaction link on my site to check. #4: How are you timing doses? If there are no issues, you can take 800mg every 8 hrs, or 600mg every 6 hrs. Max pain benefit at 600mg

Ibuprofen: Ibuprofen 800 mg for what source of pain? Different pain medication works differently for different people. Regardless I would not recommend more than 600 mg. More than that will not likely help. You can add 300 mg extra strength Tylenol for better pain control. However find out what is causing your pain and address the cause. Speak to your own doctor for recommendations.See 1 more doctor answer
Ibuprofen: Who prescribed this for you. If it was your doctor who prescribed just one dose you should not take 2 doses. If your doctor did not prescribe any do not take any.

Mixing Medication: Yes, but make sure you are taking them for the right reasons and you are not allergic or other contraindication. Hydrocodone, tylenol, (acetaminophen) and Ibuprofen all work to decrease pain, but from different approaches. Multimodal treatment approaches are more successful than single therapy for complex pain syndromes and symptoms.See 1 more doctor answer
Too much ibuprofen: Generally, yes, but monitor yourself for stomach pain and/or bloody stools as anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen can be harmful to the intestinal tract and cause ulcers and/or bleeding when taken in excess. But usually if this is the first time you've done this, you'll be ok.
If I took 800 mg of Advil (ibuprofen) pm one time then will it be okay? Will anything happen to me?
Should be fine: You should be fine. 800 mg is the maximum dose to be taken by adults at any given time. That dose can be irritating to the stomach so if it wasn't too long ago eat some food to buffer any possible irritation. This high of a dose shouldn't be taken on a regular basis over a long period of time as it can harm the kidneys. This dose should have offered pain relief, assuming that is why you took it.

If my dr told me to take 800 mg of Advil (ibuprofen) every 8 hours is there a big difference if I take 2 every 4 hours? They total the same amount?
Advil (ibuprofen): As long as the total daily dose is the same, I see no problem taking it the way you want.
