THC can be helpful: Chris, If you have found smoking marijuana to be helpful in reducing your anxiety and panic attacks I would suggest you try other oral forms of TCH to see if you have the same level of benefit. I would also encourage you to consider forms of exercise and exertion that are within your ability i.e. swimming, rowing, walking, biking. If you don't have an accountability partner you may consider one. ...Read more

I'm just starting Zoloft (sertraline) today and also am an occasional smoker. I know I need to quit. But are there any complications with smoking while on Zoloft (sertraline)?

I'm just starting Zoloft (sertraline) today and also am an occasional smoker. I know I need to quit. But are there any complications with smoking while on Zoloft (sertraline)?

No interactions: Are known. Smoking increases the level of certain liver enzymes that metabolize a number of drugs, including several psychiatric drugs and some specific antidepressants, such as fluvoxamine (Luvox). However, sertraline (Zoloft) is metabolized through other systems. However, talk to your doctor about smoking cessation and try to formulate a quit plan when you're ready. Good luck with your treatment ...Read more

10 lbs gained in a month after quitting smoking and starting Zoloft (sertraline) - typical?

10 lbs gained in a month after quitting smoking and starting Zoloft (sertraline) - typical?

It happens: Short answer: Yes. You have 2 reasons to have a weight gain. But here's the deal. Smoking will kill you. Temporary weight gain will not. You do need to make a plan. You can at least stop gaining weight, or you can even lose weight. Try the former for 2 weeks, then the latter after this. The truth is, your Zoloft (sertraline) is starting to work right now (takes 4 weeks) and kudos to you for staying off cigs. ...Read more

I was told that smoking marijuana will inhibit the Zoloft (sertraline) from working? Is this true? Thanks

Possibly.: It is difficult to be certain, since Marijuana comes in so many strains, so many p;urities. But at a metabolic level, at a neurotransmitter level, at an experiential level, it is certianly a possibility. Sound advice: no marijuana when you are taking other psychoactive medicines for treatment. Besides, they will probably work better (though you won't get high). ...Read more

Hello. Will quitting smoking cold turkey, affect my medications in any way? I'm using 200 mg Lamictal and 150 mg Zoloft (sertraline). Any dangers reagarding this?

Quit, and soon.: Are you really concerned that quitting smoking will affect your medications? The list of reasons to quit smoking is so long, and the potential benefits so great, any minor effect on your medications is negligible. If you are very concerned about this talk with the doctor who prescribed your Lamictal and Zoloft (sertraline). Regardless, at your age, if you stop smoking, your life will be so much better. ...Read more

I have been on zoloft (sertraline) 100mg for 10 months for my panic attacks. A heavy smoker for 13 years. Considering quitting smoking using patches. What's ur advice?

Smoking cessation: Is a difficult undertaking in almost all cases. It is advisable to cut down slowly prior to trying to quit altogether. Try smoking one fewer cigarettes/day until you get down to 3-4 cigarettes per day, then cut down more slowly, by smoking only 1/2 cig or 2-3 puffs. Nicotine patches help with withdrawal symptoms, but do not address other issues related to cigarette smoking, eg. Habit, social. ...Read more

I am currently being treated for bipolar and trying to quit smoking, will anti smoking medications interfere with my Zoloft (sertraline) limictal or condition?

Chantix caution: Chantix, which is actually a good smoking cessation medication, has been asociated with significant behavioral changes even in the absence of other drugs. Nicotine gum, patches etc. Are no more likely to cause problems than simply smoking. Zyban (bupropion) (wellbutrin) should be avoided because it might ramp up the mania. ...Read more

Is it safe to take setraline (zoloft) and buproprion (wellbutrin) together? I have been on Zoloft (50mg) but also would like to quit smoking and heard that wellbutrin is an excellent quit-smoking aid. Is this true and are the two safe together?

I: I am not aware of any specific warnings concerning this combination. In theory, zoloft, which is a moderate inhibitor of the main elimination pathway for wellbutrin (bupropion) (2b6), could increase wellbutrin (bupropion) concentration in the blood. This may lower a seizure threshold and increase your seizure risk. The final decision requires consideration of a variety of factors such as your age, sex, presence or absence of liver or heart disease, other health factors and is for your physician to make. ...Read more

Can quitting smokin cause severe akathisia/restlessness? I have been on seroquel for years and Zoloft (sertraline) for one month now. Just began to quit smoking.

Can quitting smokin cause severe akathisia/restlessness? I have been on seroquel for years and Zoloft (sertraline) for one month now. Just began to quit smoking.

Maybe: Zoloft (sertraline) and seroquel are substrates of 3a4, 2d6, and 2c19 liver enzymes. Nicotine is probably neither an inducer nor inhibitor of these cyp450 enzymes (altho it may speed up the metabolism of drugs processed by 1a2 and 2e1 enzymes). Thus your "akathisia" is probably just the result of losing the "calming" effects of the nicotine. ...Read more

I've been taking 100mg Zoloft (sertraline) for depression for about a year. Can I smoke marijuana? I am experienced with pot smoking and I no longer feel depressed

You can, but don't: Of course you are in charge of what you do or don't do. But I suggest refraining from marijuana if you have a history of depression and are on zoloft (sertraline). It doesn't matter that you're "experienced with pot smoking.". ...Read more

I've been taking 100mg Zoloft for depression, anxiety, and to stop my suicidal thoughts. It was working fine for months but about 3 weeks ago it seemed to stop working. At this point it is barely working at all. I did start smoking pot about a month ago f

Ans: Get off that pot. If you have a clinical depression take your Zoloft (sertraline). If you just can't cope with life the Zoloft (sertraline) will not help you and you should get counseling. The thc will only give you more problems. If you truly need help get it and learn your coping skills not an escape with the thc ...Read more

How come after smoking weed I can't fall asleep yet I get so relaxed?

Relaxing of course: That is one of the reasons use "drugs"...They derive some benefit out of them, however the trouble that it causes outweighs the benefits, couple of long term consequences:
1. A motivational syndrome
2. Increase the risk of psychosis by 7 fold.
So I suggest you stop using and if yu need help to relax, please get proper help. ...Read more

I had surgery 4 days ago on a torn wrist (TFCC), am I allowed to start smoking weed freely again? It won't affect my injury or anything will it?

Avoid marijuana: Smoking (inhaling smoke, which is full of lung irritants and cancer-causing chemicals) of any kind is unhealthy. We humans are not designed to inhale the byproducts of burning organic materials and whatever other chemical additives are mixed in with the plant materials. Avoid intentionally inhaling burning materials. It's just a bad idea, and not healthy for the body. ...Read more
