Probably not....: Blood-tinged sputum is typically caused by bronchitis, which is an infection in the lung airways. You could also have post-nasal drip and the blood is from the nose or sinuses. Black Flecks & Mucus: Coughing up black flecks is not a normal condition. It reminds me of black lung disease that is typically found in coal miners. Several thoughts: If a person has blood in saliva, but non on coughing, it suggests the blood is either coming from the gastrointestinal tract or the sinuses and nasopharyngeal area.
