My spouse has a painless, small lump in his armpit. He had one before in the other pit but it went away. Any ideas what it could be? He has an appt.

If is not feasible to know what you are feeling. You may be feeling a rib rather than a mass in the breast. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation.

Your doctor's right: Almost certainly. Leave it alone. I'm going to assume it's freely movable and not fixed to surrounding structures. Many people your age have these. Yes, & other things: Armpit (axilla) lump under the skin could be a clogged sweat gland; also could be a lymph node enlarged due to infection in area that it drains, such as any part of the upper extremity down to the fingernail; of course those nodes also drain the breast and chest wall in the area, which could be from infection or cancer.
