30 yo female, former light smoker 4-5 yrs. CT scan in 2013 with small lung nodule, but no follow up. Should I be worried? The doctor was unconcerned.

Ct scan showed very small lung nodule. I've had 3 chest x-rays prior and nothing showed on them. What happens now? How to determine if it's cancer?
Depends: If the nodule is very small, it would not be seen in a plain x-ray so the fact you had 3 prior negative ones does not mean much. You may have had it undetected for years. Depending on how big it is and your clinical situation, your doc may opt to follow up with another ct scan in 6-12 months, do a pet scan, or proceed with a biopsy. Needs biospy: Small nodules can be cancer, but they would need to be biopsied. Many times, the nodules are just scars and not cancer. If you find nodules on a cat scan of your chest, depending on the size, they need to be followed to make sure they don't grow or look ominous enough to warrant a biopsy.
